What’s in the box?

This weekend, our team of industry analysts, trend-trackers, and ninja spies, came up with a list of twelve games from Digital Game Factory and Funbox Media that we fill you mind find interesting.

The [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/commandos_ammo_pack]Commandos Ammo Pack contains the first game of the famous series of tactical WWII games: Behind Enemy Lines and its expansion: Beyond the Call of Duty. The series is not only known for excellent level design, intelligent AI, historical accuracy, and open-ended missions but also for being extreeeeeeeemely difficult. You will search for a walkthrough, unless you’ve finished extensive commando training. If you like the behind-enemy-lines sneaking and killing Nazis, you’ll probably get
Commandos 2+3 as well, especially since both games are 50% off this weekend only.

Soulbringer is an action RPG, truly a ‘hidden gem’, that almost got buried in 2000 under Diablo II, Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale’s fame. Still, it’s an excellent-crafted piece of fantasy RPG with a story and a battle system to keep you hooked for hours, especially if all this hacking and slashing is now only $2.99.

Guilty Gear, a series of 2D-fighting games, is well known for it colorful high-res graphics, hard rock/heavy metal soundtrack, unique gameplay and insane combos. Guilty Gear X2 #Reload further balances the play and adds even more to the cast of characters unmatched by any other PC fighter you know. If you’re into brutal duels with heavy-metal setting buy Guilty Gear X2 #Reload on GOG.com this weekend for only $2.99!

But that’s not all: is a satirical take on a tycoon game that puts you in role of a cruel, shady landlord. [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/slipstream_5000]Slipstream 5000 is the ultimate 90s racer: blazing fast hovercrafts, deadly weapons, and split-screen mode. You say “Incredible!”, we say “$2.99!” Realms of the Haunting is a horror + adventure + FPS + FMV for only $2.99. And there’s another six games waiting to be uncovered in this promo.
Alright, I have in my posession a brand new and unused code for Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

what I would like for it is a code for:

REALMS OF THE HAUNTING

SLIPSTREAM 5000

or

SOULBRINGER

All of which are 3 dollars right now. I would like Reams of the Haunting the most but the rest 2 would be awesome as well

This is your chance to get Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri for 3 Dollars

Let me know if you are interested
All good games on sale.
Hm, I can't decide whether it's worth it to get Normality, Soulbringer and/or Guilty Gear X2. They've been sitting on my wishlist and I'm curious about all three, plus they're dirt cheap now, but on the other hand it's not as if I really need any more games on my backlog and unless they're really fun I don't know whether I'd actually play through them.

Not being familiar with the games, I can only go by my first impressions and the few things I've read and I've already build some preconceptions:

- Soulbringer doesn't seem very pleasing to the eye, I've heard it is quite long (which is something I find discouraging) and in the videos it looks like it involves a lot of running around with a bit of complicated (?) combat in between. So far I haven't heard anything special about the story either.

- Normality is a weird mix; although slightly dated I actually like the first person graphics and especially the drawn style of the voodoo doll and inventory, but I dislike the cutscene graphics in between and the main character looks and speaks as if the developers were very eager to make him anything but normal, just so he stands out, now matter how dorky and implausible. I also read that you can't skip dialogues even if you already know them, that the puzzles are very illogical at times and that the game is quite difficult without a walkthrough.

- Guilty Gear X2 looks and sounds quite nice and seems to put an emphasis on weird, but interesting characters and their development, which makes it attractive for me, but I'm not used to fighting games, don't have an USB gamepad and most of the time I play single player. I also read that X2 continues the character stories of the predecessor and I'm afraid that this could decrease the enjoyment if I haven't played the first game.

Can anyone rid me of my prejudices? Or do you think I'm probably better off without these games? ;)

This is getting ridiculous.

I just added Constructor, Imperial Glory and Praetorians to my purchases (and yes, Praetorians does play on my version of Windows 7 just fine), so that's five of this promo I've bought so far.

I'll probably end up buying a couple more before the promo ends on Monday. HATE it when GOG has such good promos. Buying becomes addictive :)
Leroux, I'm only in the middle of Chapter 1 of Soulbringer (there are 5 chapters), but so far I really like it.

Had a few minor frustrations getting it set to completely fill widescreen, and text is very small, but other than that it's a great game.

What is it that you like about it specifically? Can you describe what makes it great, maybe compare it to similar games or name a few that you liked, too, so I know where you're coming from? :)

What did you do that it "completely fills widescreen" ?
Just bought Soulbringer and Guilty Gear X2...

Damn bought more games that were not on my wishlist. I should write a book, "The Rise and Fall of my bank account, and how GOG played its part"

Leroux, never mind - forget what I said :)

I HATE, HATE, HATE Soulbringer - I think one of the worst games I've ever played.

Spent around 5 hours today aimlessly running around in circles as there's no map so you can't figure out where you're going, the AI is jerky and awful, weird camera angles that keep changing, items difficult to equip and on and on and on.

I finally gave up and deleted the game from my computer. Awful, awful, awful. After playing something like Baldur's Gate, Diablo or Icewind Dale, this thing doesn't hold a candle to it. So,no, I don't think you'll like it.

gameon: That inspires me with great confidence after getting it recently, and not playing it yet.

But who knows, maybe i will like it alot.....
Gameson, some people love it. Would be a boring world if we all liked the same things :)

And besides, for me, it was only 3 bucks (you may have paid a bit more?) so no great loss. It's worth trying a lot of games for only 3 dollars.

BTW, I am, however, loving Praetorians, another one of my purchases from this promo. Amazingly smart game, beautiful graphics, challenging enough but not so that it makes you want to smash something and the AI on this is phenomenal. I can see I'll get a lot of gameplay out of this one.

So, you win some you lose some :)
Thanks for the promo gog.

I picked up Soulbringer and looking at it downloading at 68 KB/s i already regret it. Untill support can sort out my speed issues i won't be picking up anything over 200 MB's or so i'm affraid, too much fustration involved with dwnloading anyhing over that size. This is getting ridiculous, up to 1 PM gog downloads max out my connection at slighly under 4 MB/s, from 1 PM onward i get between 40 and 170 KB/s. This happens every single day and as much as i would lke to re-arrange my daily schedule around the time of day when gog's servers aren't going tits up for me i obviously can't. Support is still looking into it so here's looking at a relatively speedy solution for this.

Edit: Why did this thread with a post from two mnutes ago didn't jump up pn the boards and instead stayed put where it was 3 hours ago ?

Namur, I have exactly the same problem, which is odd as every other games website I download from downloads very fast.

I'm in Thailand and, sure, our internet connections are not the best in the world (we don't even have 3G yet!) but if I can get speedy downloads from other sites I'm not sure why GOG is such a problem?

I work at home, though, so I just set a GOG file to download and get on with other stuff so, while it's frustrating, it doesn't stop me from buying from GOG. One I downloaded yesterday at 1.5G took over 8 hours. Crazy, eh??
Soulbringer taken! Though I doubt I will be able to play it this year :)

Yeah, it's a bit crazy ;)

The issue won't stop me buying from gog either, i'll just focus on buying the titles with smaller downloads for a while.
