anyone know of any other websites out there like gog? i've purchased arx fatalis and i'm about to purchase beyond good and evil, giants:citizen kabuto, and perhaps a few other games. gog is a great website and i like alot of the games available but i was wondering if there were another site out there similar to this where i can download games directly and install them to my computer. i have a netbook (gateway lt3103) so the specs arent magnificent but it does what i need it to. i'm in the army so i travel alot and its small and lightweight so i like it alot. anyway i dont have an external cd/dvd drive so i cant really buy a physical copy of a game and install it to my laptop so this is my only means of gaming.

I love how everyone is refusing to mention the one owned by "Valve Software" that has something to do with Fire/Heat + Water. LMAO.
Edit: Note I would only use it for games actually made by Valve, but it should at least be mentioned.

you don't buy games through that other service, that's why I didn't list it. It's the digital equivalent of Gamefly.

And D2D(with a few minor exceptions) and Impulse aren't?

I'm not sure there are any sites quite like GOG. The other one use digital distribution, but that's about where the comparisons end.

Good idea. Let's get them all complaining about Steam again. Let me start:
I am an uninformed consumer and that is Valve's fault somehow. Rant, rant, rant!

some games on D2D and Impulse are, but there are many that aren't.
You don't have to be signed into a client with either impulse or d2d.

You don't have to be signed into a client with either impulse or d2d.

But both of them require you to connect to a server to install, meaning that they can still remove your ability to keep games long-term, either intentionally or by shutting down.

That can't be true for D2D, my example is Street Fighter 4, which uses GFWL.

I dont think anyone gained any enjoyment from the problems you experienced with Steam but it doesn't change the fact that you are one of a tiny minority that have had issues.
Steam sure do suck when it comes to compatability however they are just a distributor, they don't tamper with games like GOG do. GOG is a full service while Steam is an online distributor.
Still doesn't change the fact that Steam has a lot of happy customers. Also as LoneNite is from the US he can get some cracking deals from Steam where as we Europeans get the shaft.
