Fever_Discordia: Look similar to but not as good as the SSI Goldbox series which should therefore be a priority...
you are wrong, this game is far better than every SSI Goldbox game, in terms of depth, longevity, story, just to mention.

Story and setting may be better, but depth and longevity? How? If by longevity you mean replayability, then I must disagree.
Besides, the Gold Box had much better combat and encounter design.
They're all good games worth playing, though,

with depth I mean the complexity of the game mechanics.
with longevity I mean the hours spent to beat the game.

I dunno...I used one and a half week to complete Dragon Wars. The Gold Box games are more variable in size; I used 1-2 weeks on most of them.

As for depth I can't see who Dragon Wars should be more complex. Sure, it has skills, but Gold Box games have a more detailed combat system.

you can beat Fallout in a night, this is not the point.
all I can say is that Dragon Wars offers a more satisfyng experience than every SSI Gold, nothing else.

Well, that is just your opinion.
My opinion is that most of the Gold Box games offers a more satisfying experience than Dragon Wars. Not because Dragon Wars is bad, but because the Gold Box games are so good.

And for the record, when comparing playing times, that was through playing normally, not using a walkthrough to get complete the games ASAP.

Pools of Darkness is the hardest game I have ever played. That final boss man, it felt like I had just been trolled by SSI programmers.

Yes, the final battles are the hardest battles in any of the Gold Box games. I was able to defeat the Mulmaster Beholder Corps in Curse of the Azure Bonds without using the Dust of Disapperance (I had to exploit the weak AI instead), but for the last battles in Pools of Darkness I had to edit all my characters' DEX up to 18 (I never use maxed characters), since initiative is the difference between life and death in these battles. You need to kill as many of the Blue Minions ASAP to stand a chance with normal characters.

I made some videos of the battles (problems with the sound, though, so I suggest muting it):

too much important acquisition!
now, after the great introduction of The Bard's Tale series, it is time to see here the spiritual successor of the original trilogy!
COME ON GOG!!!
DOS version of DW is pretty bad graphically, so I'm not so sure about GOG getting if it isn't the Amiga or at least Apple 2gs version
I thought the game was freeware now as I was able to find it on a site that said it was no longer copyrighted laws.
A viewer of my youtube videos asked me about the NES form of this title as I never heard of it I hit google up and found well not alot stuff sadly it does look like a good but vary over looked game I would love to see one the forms of this game :) bring on the Dragon Wars :D
