I was thinking that perhaps there is something we could do to help CD Projekt attract more publishers, thus insuring us fans a more steady stream of games.
I like that Good Old Games busted right out of the gate with tons of great games, and the flow was going pretty well.
But then I get the feeling that either they can't code fast enough or they are having trouble securing more games.

Perhaps we could craft and sign a petition that GOG could show publishers?
For Example;
Dear Publisher,
We the users and community of Good Old Games would like to inform you that there is still dollars and cents to be made on your old classic games.
Our community of classic game lovers is ready to snatch up your old games that we can't find on store shelves anymore.
We would like to show our support for the developers and publishers of any possible releases that you might be inclined to release through this ever growing reliable service, rather than having to turn to less honest methods of attaining cherished classics.
Please help us help you, so that all parties can benefit in a celebration of preserving older games.

I would definitely sign if there were such a petition. But I doubt if it would even nudge a publisher into doing so.

Cool indeed! GoG really need to add some REAL classic to their catalogue instead of Colin McRae '05 and so on... Count me in :)
Maybe sending this to publishers directly would be more effective than petition?

One of the problems that I hope GOG will adress is that in some cases NO ONE knows who owns the rights to certain games.
Some companies have been bought, sold, split into two then sold to one person and the other half of the original company bought another company ( and with it the rights to the games they had aquired from their own mergers/partnerships.
To the point that no one DARE try to re-release something for fear of littigation. esp from one of the big boys like E.A who lets face it are happy to pump out a nother yearly update of FIFA and have no interest in the cost it would take to tangle up the web of who owns what.

Yeah I wanted to see the response on here before I took it over to that website.
Also another point was to have it as something GOG team can show publishers.
If they show it, it is being carried in the right hands.
If I just email it to a pub., then they won't even care.
Lastly I know and understand the rights complication involved with many of the games.
But this letter is just to try something, regardless of all the legalities between property holders, etc.

Actually, I was thinking about posting something like this the other day. My idea, though, was for all of us to right individual, personal letters. They have a bigger impact than a single email with a ton of names no one can verify are actual people.
The only danger I see is that we may actually damage GoGs chances by annoying IP holders. We also don't want to give them the impression that we're trying too hard, otherwise they may suspect we're just marketers.
Also, I think they should aimed at realistic targest, or high-priority IPs.
GoG, question: if you give us the name of whoever you're thinking of approaching next? If we do something like this, it's be most effective if we're on the same page as the ongoing negotiations.

Guys GoG.com is BETA. Being tested. There could be a huge back catalogue of awesome games just waiting for the public release.
I'm happy to spread the word about GoG but I don't think that we should be trying to pressure publishers. They quite possibly have a lot of outside groups trying to get their games re-released and are just sick and tired of it this could be a final straw and if GoG then contacts them they may decline immediately.
Or they could already be in the middle of negotiating with GoG for games.
If the GoG Lords ask for help or set up their own petition to send to a publisher then I'll be signing it but until then lets not muddy the waters.

Couldn't agree more gentlemen.
I can't help but think that a load of letters or pettitions could cause more harm than good.

I have to agree with parts, and disagree with others.
Mail-spamming publishers is a bad thing.
Acting on behalf of GoG is a bad thing.
Letting publishers know you want their content, and even where you want it is good. Writing them a letter may get it binned by the receptionist, but it will have a better effect than an online petition.
Show a little demand and hope it prods them our way.
I'm not good at writing a request though to correctly get it and my view across to said publisher.

I agree with some of the other comments in regard that we should let GOG take care of securing publishers of the old games and of course the obscurity surrounding that task.
Finding who took over who or they probably just went plain bankrupt fullstop. Yes it wasn't a million years ago and someone could track them down but be professional about it when approaching these things as i know GOG would be.
Don't flood publishers with"fanboy" type emails as that just pisses/scares them off!
btw.Maybe GOG could share some info. to us the members how confident they are or just a brief comment about this very issue.Even though still beta at the mo it will be great for all of us to get our first newsletter soon(before christmas hopefully as it's not far away now!)

just vote on the wishlist, buy games, and don't torrent them.
if that happens enough, it'll help GOG make their point.

I like the general attitude on this thread, and agree that we shouldn't act of GOG's behalf in this manner.

I think some of you posting on here did not read what I wrote carefully.

I stated that any such letter should be for GOG team to show to publishers.
Thus any ideas that some of you gathered about GOG community members "annoying" publishers are incorrect.
Aside from that, how can you assume that this would hurt publishers' willingness to re-release titles?
This type of letter is not meant to be fan-boyish and so forth, it is a gesture that I thought we could do on behalf of GOG to give ONLY to GOG team.
I hope this clears up any misunderstanding in regards to my intentions.
