de_Monteynard: It is the fact that games I do not want to pushed in my face, rather than picking my own.

timppu: That's how these fixed bundles (that certain people complained are lacking from GOG) work in the competing sites like Steam. You already have bought most of the games from the same service earlier? Awww, too bad, it's not like it is taken into account in the price of the bundle though. Nor will you get any gift codes for the overlapping games either (something that GOG is now doing though, kudos for that). I've never liked those bundles in those other stores, but as said, certain vocal members here have complained about the lack of them here several times. "Where's the bundle pricing? Where's the bundle pricing?" I wonder if they are now going to jump in with this? :D I personally would prefer to get back the older increasing bundles where you get to pick the games you want from the bundle, and the discount percentage increases the more you pick, or already own in the bundle. But, for some reason many people here hated that model too. It gave pretty much what you are requesting, you got to pick the games yourself, from a pre-selected selection. Actually the Deponia bundle pricing is a bit like that. If you pick both (or have one of them already), you get the higher discount. Good.
Part of the problem is that many of us already own those games retail because we bought them when they were new. So we don't get to benefit from the price bonus, we just get the same option to re-buy something if we want a decent discount on it.

I must admit, scantily clad females are not the first things to pop up my mind when thinking cyperpunk nor would they be what I'd use to represent such game.

alexw11: ...I don't understand why GOG is is pushing all of these crapware indie games, when they sure as hell know that 95% of people here registered to buy CLASSIC games....
I also would like to know how much the Indie games sell in comparison to the classics. However if looking at gameplay and graphics Indies from today and classics from the past are on comparable levels so it might make sense. GOG isn't so far a good place to buy AAA titles - we just have to face it.

I'd like to see newer titles such as L.A Noire etc, drm free.

Classic games are nice (and what GOG started out as) and some indies like Grimrock, Tiny and big, were absolutely fantastic.

But there have been alot of indies released recently. Alot.

MichaelPalin: C'mon people, support for Mac is a really big thing. It seems most of us don't care, I guess because we don't use Macs, but it's very important for gog and I'm sure it will benefit the service greatly in the long term. Besides, it's the de-facto first step towards GNU/Linux, which is great, great news.

overread: Eh the only reason they are raving against it is cause the MAC community has let to settle in and some of the die hard PC fans are scared about new people ;)
It's not new people, I'm concerned that they're going to be a spending a lot of time and resources now on something that I have no interest in or use for. It's not like Steam who just takes whatever they're given, GOG has to put more effort into converting the games or convincing publishers to sell classic games to a new audience.
Wow, great conference!

The Interplay promo is amazing. 20 great game, of which I own only 4 already, for less than 9€? Instabuy!

GOG going Mac doesn't really interest me as a customer, but should be good for the shop. New releases look interesting, but are too expensive for me for now, no problem though, I can wait.

The editor could be very interesting, though I have to admit that I pretty much missed its presentation by looking for the Interplay promo. ;)

Cyberpunk seems to be shaping up nicely - modernized scenario, open world approach, sounds great! :)

All in all a much more interesting conference than I expected.

Sooo Ghost in the Shell isn't part of your current cyberpunk collection ?

overread: ...You do realise that the wishlist is just a - well wishlist. GOG do pay some attention to it, but honestly its not like all the items at the top of the list are being held back. IF they are not being released its because GOG hasn't/can't get hold of the release rights.
Sure I realised this. And you probably know very well that people want the games on the wishlist most. They won't be really happy until you can somehow give these to them. That's why I say that today's conference was quite underwhelming and I see it as GOGs weakest point independently of why it is like it is. GOG isn't very successful in this regards.

Rygaar: Having games working in dosbox is easy, no matter the distribution.
avatar
Petrell: However, is it easy to make universal linux installer that installs the game AND an universally compatible build of dosbox on every linux distribution imaginable?
Yes actually, they could/would statically build doxbox, and make an executable that throws it and the games in /opt/gog (or the users directory in /home), just like everyone does that already supports Linux in a distro agnostic way. Installing is NOT the hard part, what they imagine the hard part to be is supporting all these different configurations - for some reason they don't think it would be enough to say that they officially support Ubuntu and/or Fedora and let the rest of us sort it out.
I think we can take it as given that if GOG, a business that is trying to make money, keeps releasing indie games, it's because people keep buying them.

I apparently got a lot of games from the Interplay promo; turns out I only owned one of the games in the lowest tier? Of course, since I only wanted one other game in that tier, I now have a bunch of games that will sit on my shelf forever and never get downloaded; I'd have gifted them, if GOG had given me a choice.

Good to know i wasn't the only one who felt the image was pandering to the typical male/white/straight demographic.

Really?

I agree that it might not be the best option and that the industry as a whole tends to have a problem presenting a sexist attitude, but it's still a pretty common element since all of the feeder cultures (SF, RPGs, Anime/Manga, etc.) that lead to the development of it tend to have the same problems.

Even looking at Neuromancer Molly may have been incredibly competent and independent, but Gibson still didn't shy away from describing her slipping out of her leather jeans in detail.

avatar
Elbart: You gotta explain that for me.
Well, if you are going to jump to a different OS on PC, it's either Mac or GNU/Linux, and guess which one is a bigger market? So going Mac is kind of the inevitable first choice.
Missed out, but I'm glad that I can get a basic summary from the varying news posts. I will express disappointment that only Bioforge was the only classic released today (and afaik there was no news about other classics coming to GOG), but I'm sure people are interested in the pay-what-you-want Interplay deal.
