From the latest Wasteland 2 backer email:

We recently went to talk with EA to try and get it out in a different, separate format, and they accommodated our idea. We’ve now inked a new deal where we’ll be able to release Wasteland 1 separately. After getting the game in our hands and ensuring it runs on modern machines, we plan to distribute it FOR FREE to all our backers before Wasteland 2’s release, as well as sell it on GOG.com and Steam for anyone else interested in trying out this classic RPG.
This is awesome, but I'm not sure how I'll be getting my copy of Wasteland, whether they'll distribute it the same way as the WL2 copy, or if they'll be giving out keys here.

Either way would be awesome, but it would be nice to be able to have my copy here.

I also hope this means that WL2 will be coming here eventually. If ever there were a game that deserved to be here, in spite of being new, surely that's it.
Don't know if that means us backers will be getting a GOG / steam key, I reckon probably not.

It was confirmed on GOG quite some time ago.
