this reeks of bullshit since the MMO would keep THQ in the black for years even if it only delivered half of what it's supposed to, but supposedly THQ just canceled the 40K MMO and is preparing it's self to be sold.

I know that Red Faction Armageddon tanked hard, but with Saints Row being one of the most popular titles out right now I find this rumor hard to believe ...
Spotted this over on the Relic news forums - but at present its just one Tweet by some guy. Hardly anything worth getting worried or putting any time into until there are more credible sources of more complete info.

*wonders if he made a random "GoG insider" Twitter account, how long and how many news sites would start using it for article sources*

But for debate - if GW pulled the plug on the IP access or upped the costs it could easily pull the legs out from under THQ before the games release. However I would expect the contract between them would have protections against this eventuality.
As for comments about pricing - maybe they are just reorganising their release schedule - or only selling off one or two components of their company.
Or it could all be cake -- er I mean a lie.

Not a big deal, THQ was a publisher, not a developer. Relic will still make DOW3 and Yukes will still make WWE 13.

Depends though - if the publisher is the main financial supporter of the project or has joint hold over the IP access it could spell some problems for developers continuing their products.

I'm pretty sure all the Games Workshop contracts were with THQ, not the developers directly.
Well these are rumous, they have to be taken with a bit of salt. I find it impossible to believe THQ is readying itself to be sold. Like you said, Saints Row 3 sold very well, i think that Warhammer Space Marine sold well too, even Homefront did well, even though it wasnt as successful as THQ hoped.

But yeah, RF Armageddon was a total failure (it was THEIR fault for changing EVERYTHING that made Guerrilla a great game), but i doubt that game alone was enough to sink THQ so much like that. Cmon, RF A couldnt have a production cost that high.

I really hope this isnt true. If it is, itll be very sad indeed.

Yeah, it's not like THQ holds a bunch of franchises by the throat or anything. Like Metro 2033 / Last Light, STALKER, Darksiders, Saints Row, or Company of Heroes.

Yeah, who cares about those franchises anyway?
yeah, add in that metro 2 is upcoming along with Darksiders 2 and the South Park RPG and you get one of the best line ups for heavy hitting releases. probably one for each quarter if Darksiders launches this quarter, Metro over the summer, the South Partk RPG in the fall, and 40k DM during the holidays ... as long as none of them ship in a Homefront like state, each one of those is guaranteed to sell tens of millions.

on the topic of Homefront, Cryteck getting signed to handle Homefront 2 is another guaranteed seller by name alone.

No one had better fuck with Darksider's 2, I will be deeply annoyed should anything untoward happen to it.
Really hope it's not true, Saints Row 4 and Darksiders 2, ugh!
consider THQ would have been putting down a huge chunk of change for a certain game on the Xbox now they don't have that cost going out anymore plus improved profits this quarter (though share prices dropped after a certain courtcase) it reads more like an attempt to short the market than actual worry about the company...
Rumours are false, says THQ:

I am glad rumors are false i kind of like THQ they have published some solid fun games in the past.
Like all compaines just now times will be tough with the way the economys are for a lot of countries which mean less money to people to buy games.

I do hope SR4 comes out and that they have the time to make it bigger and better than 3. I do love SR3 but enjoyed SR2 better as more to explore and do.
If THQ is up for sale, I hope the buyer is more likely to join GOG. I want Zanzarah here. And, frankly, I couldn't care much less about a Warhammer 40000 MMO.
You know what would be really nice? A Company of Heroes without that shitty Relic online.

But I suppose that's more of a Relic decision.
