These things can have negative effects as they can desensitize people to the problem. We already have a rape problem in our society as it is with people blaming the victim, a lot of rape cases are dismissed because the woman was dressed or acting provocatively. I think it setting the precedent that rape is an acceptable form of entertainment (no matter what medium it is presented in) would have absolutely no benefits and would have a great potential for harm.

I think it takes more than games to desensitize people to something. Look at all the violent video games out there that have you kill for something you believe in or for fun... And are we desensitized to real life murder? No. Murderers are hunted down like dogs, arrested and sent to prison for life(or for a long time) or executed in most countries where a lot of people play video games. I think we are too sensitive when it comes to murder. I think the reason why some rape cases are dismissed is because so many women lie when it comes to rape and judges don't want to send an innocent man to prison because of a lie. If there is evidence, proving a man raped a woman then no matter how she was dressed, where she was etc, the rapist is going to prison. But if there is no evidence. Just the victim saying some guy raped her, what is the judge supposed to do? Send the guy to prison because someone said he did something?

this reminds me of an article that was in PCGamer a few years back,

the writer was on a bus in a city (I don't remember if it mentioned what city) & there was a shooting on the street & even the older passengers just accepted it as a way of life in the city.

so LIFE can desensitize people as well.

To an extent, I don't mind most of these games since their set in war settings and violence is a vehicle of the story. If there was a game where you simply walked down a street and shot people while a monologue went on in the background I would question the worth of that game. I've looked at Rapelay and it has no story of any consequence, the only thing to do is rape people and I have to question the validity of a game like that on ethical grounds. There is such a thing as going too far. I'm not perfect but I have to draw the line somewhere.

That just proves that desensitized people can still oppose something they find "evil". It all comes down to beliefs and how much empathy someone has. Those people accepted the shooting on the street as the way things are in that city but I'm sure, they will not hesitate putting the person who was shooting in prison for what he did if they had the power. So even if video games do desensitize people, they are still harmless.

Plenty of games do precisely what you mention.

Grand Theft Auto, Carmageddon, Just Cause, Saints Row. Yet these are, for the most part, big successes and perfectly acceptable. I've played these games since childhood, not a single one has come close to desensitising me to real world violence, neither has rapelay desensitised me to real world rape.

Those games I don't quite count because attacking citizens is possible but not really part of the story, people choose to do that. The game is based around a storyline that doesn't really involve that. I haven't really played carmageddon so I wouldn't know with that one. My arguments aren't going to be very sophisticated because its 1:20 am and I am drugged up on coffee, try not to take advantage of my weakness at this time. Thank you and good night.

I second a previous opinion: I'm not against having sex-oriented games on GOG, and TBH I'm not against this particular one being sold here either, but there are better games out there that I feel should take priority.

I personally would love to have a GOG copy of Fate/stay night

I've been playing violent video games similar to GTA since I was 5 years old and recently, when I saw some footage from what is going on in Ukraine right now, I was totally horrified. I imagine, if I saw such things up close in real life, I'd be even more horrified. Some people say violent video games turn people into killers. LOL

Precisely that, even the footage I saw recently of police firing 47 bullets at a man armed only with a knife was enough to take my breath away. Nothing I've ever experienced in any violent game has even come close to that.

In the end it comes down to being able to distinguish the difference between reality and fiction. If we have to force the belief that we can't do that for games then we should do it for movies, books, music and any other fictional media out there as well. Just picking on the one thing, be it the medium that fiction is played out in, or the themes that fiction deals with, is hypocritical to me.
