cw8: Turn-based combat.

Now I wonder how many people with pitchforks will come knocking on my door.
avatar
Wolfehunter: hahaha.. No pitchforks... They'll use M-12 Locust.. more elegant..
Let them come.
*Reloads Black Widow sniper rifle*

Seriously, would be great to have a turn-based RPG in the sci-fi universe like D:OS quality.

Austrobogulator: I want Mass Effect 1 with better inventory management and less wonky Mako physics.
This. ME1 was a brilliant, if flawed, game. However, after seeing what they did with ME2, I never had the urge to pick up ME3.

If you didn't like ME2, you don't want to pick up the third. Trust me. Bioware built the game on the worst basis of the second one, the storyline is imo ridiculous and very badly written - and I'm not just refering to the ending, unforgiveable sin for a game that calls itself "story-driven"; the combat is even more shallow, as the three or four kinds of enemies behave like zombie hordes and you're basically an invincible soldier even at higher difficulties; the quest system (along with the journal) is disastrous: you literally have to *eavesdrop* to obtain quests, and all of the times they are just delivery-boy chores.
Somtimes I ask myself if the "great old" Bioware everyone is talking about was not only Black Isle in disguise.
In my opinion, Mass Effect is unsalvageable.
In this thread - people who think Bioware actually cares about your opinion, lol :D
I didn't even like ME1, so never bothered with 2 and 3, so bleh. Outside from not liking the action-y TPS combat and the lack of real RPG character creation (having to play a pre-set character, Shepard or female Shepard) instead of creating your own character and how they look etc, all their stats/skills etc, I also didn't like the art-style. I don't hate sci-fi but I don't like the "sterilized" shiny and "clean" sci-fi look of ME series, I guess you could call it the Star Trek look (the Star Wars prequels had it too), I much prefer sci-fi which is grittier, dirtier, kinda rustic and metallic.

Also goddamn fix how your engine rendered 3D models Bioware, what is it with all the characters in ME/DA games looking like their face is slathered in Vaseline or baby oil, it's weird.

Hm.

*A class-less character system.
*The best sci-fi writers. Preferably with Star Control 2's at the helm.
*No DRM, with distribution on GOG.
*No multi-player.
*Newgame+ and carryover to later installments.
*To be developed by CDProject.
*A name change to Mass Effect Alpha, with successors being Beta and the like.

Impossible. You'd be better off wishing to resurrect the dead.
Fewer choices, but those choices would have a more profound impact. I hate it when there are seven dialogue options in a game and they only get the two different replies.
Less dating-sims. (I got enough of that in my real life)
Turn based combat. (Yeah, like THAT is going to happen)
A better ending.
A less annoying fan base.
NO COVER BASED SHOOTING. ( I can't be the only one who dislikes those)

They wouldn't do this kind of marketing stunts if there wouldn't be people to believe them.
No romances. Because some of the writing, and ESPECIALLY the fan bases, make it really, really, creepy.
Make the combat better. As with Bio-Shock, the combat is not. designed by a studio with a real back-ground in action-shooters, and it shows.

I would have said "more choices", as they really were not a lot in all the three chapters, and had small to no effect on the the main course of the story. Examples? The human councilor, the Rachni Queen, the outcome of the final battle in te first game, the Collcetor base... all of them have turned out to be futile, even if they should have reshaped the galactic balance of powers.
Besides, Bioware should really abandon their Manichaeistic dualism: most of the so-called "choices" are trivial matters of "goodness" vs. "prickness" (not even actual evil). They should really add more unpredictable consequences, like in The Witcher 2 (a very similar game, but also a LOT better, if you ask me), and avoid to colour the alternatives in red or blue. It's not like players are idiots and don't understand what the consequence of acting with diplomacy or violence could be...

All right, I think I know what Bioware needs: good writers. Sorry if I sound excessively harsh, but I think the Mass Effect series was my worst purchase ever (just after Final Fantasy XIII), and being an ex-Bioware admirer this irritates me even more!

Edit: with "ex-admirer" I basically mean that I adored their Infinity Engine and liked Baldur's Gate. Which, by the way, I find to be an excellent game, but also greatly overrated.

Get a decent writer
No DRM (yeah right....)...
I was going to say fix the ME3 ending, but since that isn't going to happen...

1. Either make the romance plots part of the engaging main story, or drop them altogether. They pigeonholed the fuck out of the romance subplots in ME3. 'Hey, Shepard, been a while since we saved the galaxy and fell madly in love with each other. But hey, whateva, how you been? Reapers? What's that? Sure I'll party with you on the Citadel. Oops, hang on. I've got a fax from Darth Vader. Peace' Fucking ADD love plots need to be 86'd. Either do them right or don't do them at all. They fucking give us another holocam jerkoff session before the last mission like they did with Jack and I'll rebuild and pilot Sovereign myself.

2. Make mini/side missions mean something. In ME2 it was really bad. The only one that seemed to have any relevance at all was the Normandy 1 dogtag finding mission. Make the missions streamlined so that looking for some missing scientist actually makes sense in regards to the overall plot. Otherwise, it just all comes across as mid-game level grinding horseshit.

3. The antagonist should be respected and kept from the player for as long as possible. They did it right with Saren, because even though he started out as a half-hero, his motives were unclear... and most importantly, the Normandy was always one step behind him. His mystery and his allusiveness lead him to being a good villain. The Illusive man in ME2 started that way, then went into full-on ridiculous Cobra Commander mode in ME3. Stop ruining villains. Without a villain that exhibits human traits... even extreme ones, the audience, which is largely human beings, is going to feel alienated from the story and the emotions involved in the characters interactions.

I could go on, but fuck it. They're not going to listen, and most likely the law of averages will prove that yet another hopeful contender will go down in flames.

This. The selling point of ME was always the "strong writting" but they fucked that up beyond human comprehension.
