i think i will go with a 730 though

i have been quite happy with the performance of a geforce 540 m in my laptop and the 730 destroys that card
so im sure i will be alright

i generally dont reach for the eye bleeding high resolutions anyway
i wont have the pc till 3 jan 2015 so its going to be kinda hard to say
and i decided on a 730 anyway

ive been quite happy witht he performance of a geforce 540 m in a i5 laptop
and a 730 out performes both the card it already has and the 540 so im sure ill be happy with the 730

I think that's probably safest.

I have now read about people underclocking their CPU and 750Ti and getting it within a 200W window. So it's possible. But if you don't want to mess with all of that (I certainly wouldn't), then your Radeon r7 240 or 730 are probably the safest bets.

im always a bit wary of overlcocking things i did it once
machine never worked right afterwards

so i wil probably go for the 730 it seems the better of the avaialble low profile low voltage cards
and its cheap

im always up for some insanity ! ( once managed to run oblivion on a pentium 3 1000 mhz with a geforce 512 video card )

Probably not what you want to hear, but I personally think it's a billion times better (and in some ways more economical) to start with a different PC-base altogether than the HP Elite 800 G1.

Why? Because the limitations of the PSU (and limited upgradability of it), and low form factor (you pay more for it vs. standard) ultimately cripples your PC potential.

That is, you get all the downsides of a desktop with few of the benefits.

its a better card then what is in it and better then the baseline i have in my laptop

That's the problem with those slimline/low profile style desktop rigs. I just replaced an AMD 4800+ XP slimline rig with an nForce 460 or w/e. It was basically like running a 360, and I'll tell you this right now, with the smaller models, expect some skinned knuckles doing basic things, such as adding RAM!

for the price tag of 249 i cant complain too much
especially not with 4 ram slots and an i5 and i will manage with a geforce 730 ive done with worse

and if the psu connector is NOT propietary

Which version of the GT 730 are you planning on getting?
The GeForce website lists three variants for the GT 730, so keep that in mind. The reviews at Game-Debate indicate that the DDR5 version would provide the best performance of the three.
