Looking at it from this perspective, the Asian martial arts would be a much better fit than most sports.

Because they are so ineffective?
In most cross-martial art fights I've seen the Asian ones lost to the European styles, especcially in traditional sword fencing (also in weaponless styles like Savate vs. Kung-Fu or Karate though), but the real western styles are just not as popular anymore, because we threw them out of the window when firearms were everywhere. It's just recently that some people are interested in those again. I've trained and have trained people in such styles for years.
The advantage of the Asian martial arts is, that there are finished competition rules already, while the competition rules of longsword fencing are still varying too much from place to place and the traditional styles are all made for killing and not for competing without real harm.

Thinking about it and lookin at it from this perspective, modern olympics should actually be eSports only, because war today usually means some stinkin rich people making phone calls and pressing buttons and then masses of poor people and low infantry dying.

The World Cyber Games were supposed to be just that. But it started to fall apart due to the small price pool and the choice of games, and they officially announced closure this year.

I agree. Personally I find it boring as well. But I also don't watch much sports since that also tends to bore me. It is much better to play games yourself :D

It's the same with sports for me.

E-sports might eventually make it to the Olympics or better yet, to a separate event of similar scale, but in spite of the explosive growth of e-sports the time is not ripe yet for that to happen. A couple of global generations reared on electronic games on a mass scale have to reach adulthood and indeed late first - a process that is well underway, but not yet complete.

Furthermore, technology has to stabilize at a level, where a couple of the best games can be chosen and remain relevant for decades. Again, we are not there yet - advances in computing and graphics are slowing, but are still blazing-fast compared with the pace of changes to games such as football (soccer).

This as well. There are major disruptions when games are being changed in tournaments. Best example is going from Starcraft to Warcraft 3 to Starcraft 2. While the games are similar in that they're developed by Blizzard and are RTSes, they are so different that the skills do not necessarily transfer over. The beasts from Starcraft never made anything notable in Warcraft 3, and those from Warcraft 3 are average pros in Starcraft 2.

So in order a solution to be found, balance will have to be found between the RTS game changing on a regular schedule, in order to keep the meta fresh and offer new and exciting things to viewers, and giving pros enough time to actually master said game and become an actual pro.

This is just one example, on the FPS front it is even more of a mess, by having anything from Quake to Counter Strike to Call of Duty competing for that FPS spot. Which would be eliminated? Or will people compete in multiple FPSes?

Which is why I don't think an Olympics-like event makes sense in eSports.
