Share your Good Old Gaming memories and get up to five $9.99 games!

We are all retrogamers at heart and our identities are built on the foundation of classic gaming memories. We know you have plenty of those as well. Memories, that is, not identities (and even if, let’s just not go there). We would like to give you an opportunity to tell us about your very own greatest classic gaming moments and grab some free games in the process!

"Let's play" videos seem to be all the craze these days. But they’re so 2010’s. Let’s do something with more of a retro-feel. Let's talk about the classics! Tell us your "GOGgame Story"! There has to be at least one game on your GOG.com shelf that holds a special place in your heart. One that you think of more like an old friend than just an item of electronic entertainment. Recall the good times you had with it, record a video and upload it to YouTube to share your love for classics with the world and get a chance to grab some free games!

To put it in six simple steps:

1. Look at GOG.com catalogue of games.
Choose one that you feel like you have much to tell about.

2. Make a "GOGgame Story":
a video of some in-game footage, your commentary, and maybe even you in person--just about anything that will spice up your video.

3. Please include the following screen at the end of your video.
The image is provided in 720p resolution. If your video is smaller, re-scale or crop, but keep the 16:9 aspect ratio.

4. Upload your "GOGgame Story" to YouTube.
Call it something like "[Game Title], a GOGgame Story, by [YourGOGForumNickname]" and make it public. Also, please include the following text in the video’s description: “The game in this video is available on http://www.GOG.com”.

5. Provide a link to your video in the thread below.

6. Profit!*

* Starting next week, each Friday till the end of November, the video with the most views will be awarded with 5 codes (each for a $9.99 game). The same prize will go to the author of the most cereative video (Mr. A, our Video Ninja will be the judge of that). Yet another pack of 5 codes will be given to the author of GOG's favorite video (by popular vote of our whole staff). Three runner-up prizes, 1 code each, will be handed out as well. Ingenuity, humor, and creativity will be taken into account. Multiple entries are allowed. A public list of winning videos will be held in the forum. Picking a game that didn’t already have a winning video created for it, will improve your chances. As well as wearing a monocle and a top hat in the video. Just kidding. Or...?

That’s the whole deal - pick a classic game that you love from GOG.com catalogue, tell the internets your "GOGgame Story", get free games. Sounds pretty easy, eh? Well, ladies and gentlemen, start your cameras!

Just to make sure:

Do I have to own the game on GOG to make a qualifying video?

There are four games here that I do not own, but that I have fond memories of - Gabriel Knight 1 through 3 and Sanitarium. Plus some of the Telltale games. I just want to make sure that my videos will be accepted if I don't own them here.

You probably (understandably) didn't have the patience to read G-Doc's blue wall of text but he stated the following 4 posts ago:

"To answer another question I saw in the comments: no, you don't have to own a GOG.com version of the game you're talking about. Any legal copy will do, as long as the game is available on GOG.com (otherwise there wouldn't be a point to call the video a "GOGgame Story", now would there be?)."

I'm gonna give it a go. This sounds fun, plus GOG shows a lot of love for its customers so why not show some back. I have two games in mind so I'm going to the drawing board
It sounds really tempting... I think I have some nice idea...
I like this idea! And even though I LP I doubt I be able to make an interesting video on certain gog games that I loved lots since I was a child. I just suck at explaining and such xD

Viciousdex: Hey everyone,

I just made a video for this contest on one of my favorite classic PC games ever.

Battle Chess.

That's really really nice. Good job on that!!!

Fred_DM: outsourcing your marketing to the community?

i don't see the appeal of watching Joe Nobody talk about his nostalgia...
STOP THE THREAD. FRED_DM DOESN'T APPROVE!!!

GOG should have outsourced their game screening process instead and called it something like...GOGLight.

wolfsite: Sorry, don't really want to put myself on Youtube. Some of the people who leave comments there are.... people I would like to avoid.

I do run a GOG Thread on BSN alerting people of sales and GOG events to bring people over here so I do my part for advertising.
You can put up a video and disable the comments so people can't leave them.

And, I agree with you. Some of THE worst comments on the Internet are on YouTube. Basically, if it's racist, homophobic, violent, aggressive and bordering on illegal, the comment will be on YouTube.

BTW, can we pleeeease change the name of the website to GOG dot com and not G.O.G dot com?

I've noticed most commentators all over the Internet call it GOG dot com and not G.O.G.

G.O.G. doesn't technically stand for anything anymore and it's not a good name for marketing purposes. Seriously, it's not :)

So,......if I do get a chance to do a video (and I'm on vacation in Spain so that's debatable if it'll happen), I will be talking about GOG and not G.O.G. :)

Nice idea, but I prefer writing over talking. Besides, one of my strongest memories is playing with the graphics options in Tomb Raider on a ViRGE. It's what made me fall in love with 3D "acceleration" (it wasn't really faster, just better looking). I don't think I can even show this in a video.
Hey, nice idea, I´m probably not gonna participate, because I don´t have a camera, but good luck to those who will :)

Real life footage isn't mandatory. You can use only in-game footage, and you don't need a camera for that :-)
Ingenious marketing plot and a nice contest all in one!

It is not impossible that I participate, but I doubt it, much schoolwork at the moment.
Is profanity allowed? :D

Also can we show multiplayer footage?

Hey, it's your video--we can't stop you from being obscene if you want to be. Just keep in mind, that offensive content is frowned upon by YouTube and generally won't make you new friends. It might also decrease your chances of getting awarded.

KhalidYousif: Also can we show multiplayer footage?
Sure! If your memories focus on playing with other people, put it in your video.

Ouch... okay no profanity. I was just thinking about a style similar to a one specific angry video game nerd :D
