Share your Good Old Gaming memories and get up to five $9.99 games!

We are all retrogamers at heart and our identities are built on the foundation of classic gaming memories. We know you have plenty of those as well. Memories, that is, not identities (and even if, let’s just not go there). We would like to give you an opportunity to tell us about your very own greatest classic gaming moments and grab some free games in the process!

"Let's play" videos seem to be all the craze these days. But they’re so 2010’s. Let’s do something with more of a retro-feel. Let's talk about the classics! Tell us your "GOGgame Story"! There has to be at least one game on your GOG.com shelf that holds a special place in your heart. One that you think of more like an old friend than just an item of electronic entertainment. Recall the good times you had with it, record a video and upload it to YouTube to share your love for classics with the world and get a chance to grab some free games!

To put it in six simple steps:

1. Look at GOG.com catalogue of games.
Choose one that you feel like you have much to tell about.

2. Make a "GOGgame Story":
a video of some in-game footage, your commentary, and maybe even you in person--just about anything that will spice up your video.

3. Please include the following screen at the end of your video.
The image is provided in 720p resolution. If your video is smaller, re-scale or crop, but keep the 16:9 aspect ratio.

4. Upload your "GOGgame Story" to YouTube.
Call it something like "[Game Title], a GOGgame Story, by [YourGOGForumNickname]" and make it public. Also, please include the following text in the video’s description: “The game in this video is available on http://www.GOG.com”.

5. Provide a link to your video in the thread below.

6. Profit!*

* Starting next week, each Friday till the end of November, the video with the most views will be awarded with 5 codes (each for a $9.99 game). The same prize will go to the author of the most cereative video (Mr. A, our Video Ninja will be the judge of that). Yet another pack of 5 codes will be given to the author of GOG's favorite video (by popular vote of our whole staff). Three runner-up prizes, 1 code each, will be handed out as well. Ingenuity, humor, and creativity will be taken into account. Multiple entries are allowed. A public list of winning videos will be held in the forum. Picking a game that didn’t already have a winning video created for it, will improve your chances. As well as wearing a monocle and a top hat in the video. Just kidding. Or...?

That’s the whole deal - pick a classic game that you love from GOG.com catalogue, tell the internets your "GOGgame Story", get free games. Sounds pretty easy, eh? Well, ladies and gentlemen, start your cameras!

Raven-Valor95: Hi!
I decided to give it a shot, here is my GOG Story on Fahrenheit.

Nice video! Very well made.

I think some people here are missing the point that GoG is all about old games and our experiences with them. Nostalgia IS the company and to pretend that 'The Average Joe' has no influence on this is sheer ignorance.
The Average Joe and his game experiences are what make GoG such a great site to buy all our old favorites from, and ones we missed! The community is great and the reviews are basically simpler versions of what this challenge is all about.

I would do one myself, but I'm not the acting/video savvy type.

Can I also make a video in german? My english is not that good. :D
Gave it a shot myself... Gotta say that RavenValor set quite a good example, so I don't know if it lives up, but hey, I'll just throw it out there for the fun times.

Mine is for Rayman 2. Good times! :)

Although I can't see myself participating in this, I find it a nice idea (and don't deem it "free advertising"). I'd sure like to see/hear some other GOGers' reminiscences.

tfishell: There seems to be a lack of enthusiasm about this, but I sure would like to hear people's memories! :) Nostalgia...

I'm at a university that has some nice recording equipment, so I may attempt this. Maybe. (Sadly, probably not.)

Foxhack: Well the problem is that not all of us have played these old games.

I would like to make a video on the Gabriel Knight games since they were MY introduction to PC gaming (well, them and that horrible screensaver called Myst), but I don't own the GOG versions. So that's a bit of a problem, unless I pirate them, and if I win, I ask that they be included in the games I win. :P
Do the GOG rules say you have to own the GOG versions? I'll check now, but I'd assume you wouldn't HAVE to; as long as you played them back in the day, I'd think you'd be good.

EDIT: Oh, for the required game footage?

Bah! Mine was going to be Rayman 2, too!

I have no problem being used for marketing if it gets even one new person to play the game who never experienced it or was too young to experience it when it first came out.
Hell it's why I do Let's Plays and video impressions of games without any profit to gain as is in my spare time.
It's about sharing something you enjoy. (Not to mention it's nice to get Joe Nobody's opinion on stuff vs I get free swag and such from the devs and companies and paid to review titles who depend on those ties with PR people and exclusive or early access
to products.)
Ok enough of that little soapbox rant.

My GOG Story on Betrayal at Krondor, by Joe Nobody experiencing and conveying heavy doses of nostalgia. ;)

I enjoyed your video pretty much, thanks!
Cool idea, I like it. Unfortunately I am not really the type of person to do such videos, but I am looking forward to watching others videos.

I already watched submited videos and I like but, sorry I am yet to watch deadlyhabit's one. You really have deadlyhabit. It's supposed to be 2-5 minutes, not 27. :-p

I was working on it before they put up all the guidelines and 2-5 minute thing, just saw the inital post and started at it, and frankly I wouldn't be able to convey all I want to in that short timeline anyways.

I can see where you're coming from there... My entry was about 10 minutes long before I edited a bit. I undestand why they got the time limit, and it's a good one, but it can be a bit short.

Heh if it disqualifies me so be it, I could care less about the prize, but more about sharing my story, the game itself, and hopefully getting some new players to experience it.

Sorry, don't really want to put myself on Youtube. Some of the people who leave comments there are.... people I would like to avoid.

I do run a GOG Thread on BSN alerting people of sales and GOG events to bring people over here so I do my part for advertising.

I have never done any video, so I am not going to enter.
Good event still, would love to see other people's work.

You can disable comments on videos. But i agree, there is alot of scum on youtube posting awful stuff. If that's what free speech is, i want none of it.
As others have said getting free marketing from your customers and offering very little reward for the effort, no thanks.

This sort of thing doesn't sit well with me.
