Share your Good Old Gaming memories and get up to five $9.99 games!

We are all retrogamers at heart and our identities are built on the foundation of classic gaming memories. We know you have plenty of those as well. Memories, that is, not identities (and even if, let’s just not go there). We would like to give you an opportunity to tell us about your very own greatest classic gaming moments and grab some free games in the process!

"Let's play" videos seem to be all the craze these days. But they’re so 2010’s. Let’s do something with more of a retro-feel. Let's talk about the classics! Tell us your "GOGgame Story"! There has to be at least one game on your GOG.com shelf that holds a special place in your heart. One that you think of more like an old friend than just an item of electronic entertainment. Recall the good times you had with it, record a video and upload it to YouTube to share your love for classics with the world and get a chance to grab some free games!

To put it in six simple steps:

1. Look at GOG.com catalogue of games.
Choose one that you feel like you have much to tell about.

2. Make a "GOGgame Story":
a video of some in-game footage, your commentary, and maybe even you in person--just about anything that will spice up your video.

3. Please include the following screen at the end of your video.
The image is provided in 720p resolution. If your video is smaller, re-scale or crop, but keep the 16:9 aspect ratio.

4. Upload your "GOGgame Story" to YouTube.
Call it something like "[Game Title], a GOGgame Story, by [YourGOGForumNickname]" and make it public. Also, please include the following text in the video’s description: “The game in this video is available on http://www.GOG.com”.

5. Provide a link to your video in the thread below.

6. Profit!*

* Starting next week, each Friday till the end of November, the video with the most views will be awarded with 5 codes (each for a $9.99 game). The same prize will go to the author of the most cereative video (Mr. A, our Video Ninja will be the judge of that). Yet another pack of 5 codes will be given to the author of GOG's favorite video (by popular vote of our whole staff). Three runner-up prizes, 1 code each, will be handed out as well. Ingenuity, humor, and creativity will be taken into account. Multiple entries are allowed. A public list of winning videos will be held in the forum. Picking a game that didn’t already have a winning video created for it, will improve your chances. As well as wearing a monocle and a top hat in the video. Just kidding. Or...?

That’s the whole deal - pick a classic game that you love from GOG.com catalogue, tell the internets your "GOGgame Story", get free games. Sounds pretty easy, eh? Well, ladies and gentlemen, start your cameras!

To quickly answer some of your questions (already asked, and coming):

* The video needs to be voiced in English, so the most people can enjoy it and so that we feel competent to judge its content.

* Yes, this should be a personal retrospective, but the rest is entirely up to you.

* 720p is quite enough, it can even be less, as long as it doesn't compromise the beauty of the game ;-)

* Everything lasting from 2 to 5 minutes should be fine, we will however make exceptions in some cases, if a video is truly brilliant (but preferably - keep it between 2-5 minutes)

* You can make multiple entries, and you can even win multiple times (but not in a single week).

* DosBox games have a built-in video capture feature. Please consult the instructions:
http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Recording_Video

I'll answer any other questions gladly!

Couldn't it be subtitled in english too? Can't people read?
:/

We, at GOG.com, are nerds, and we take much pride in our nerdhood! The videos can be subtitled! :-)

So it may be voiced in another language and subtitled in english?

Not that I intend to participate but still. :P
Brilliant idea. One of the reasons people give such high reviews to some of the games here is the nostalgia factor, and this plays right up that alley. It gives people a chance to try and convince others why your mess of pixelated globs or 2D sprites is STILL awesome.

It's only fair to allow entires in other languages as well, but we need at least the English subtitles to properly judge the content.
I have a few questions too: Do I need to own the game on GOG I want to talk about? I ask that because I want to talk about a game (Unreal Tournament) that I own in it´s boxed version but not on GOG.

Do I need to use an unmodded version of the game like I would have after the download from the site or am I allowed to Upgrade my version to be more appealing to the eye and maybe show maps that are not from the game itself? I want to know that because I have very high resolution textures in my Unreal Tournament and a massive load of custom maps. I could Install a fresh copy just for the recording if needed.
Now I wish GOG had Commander Keen.
Beautiful idea... One question. Can it be a compilation of moments from different games? And do we have a time limit for the video?

Are there any Finnish speaking GOG lords that could spot if the subtitles and spoken words don't match? :p
I think this idea is very cool and although I can nerd with the best of them about my favourite games, I don't think I will participate. Why? Because it is a video. And in all honestly, videos in general are so 2010. Be they "Let's play..."s or not.

I much prefer the carefully selected words, the lovingly constructed sentences, the affectionately discarded grammar, the devotedly drawn phrases, the gigglingly crafted hyperbolas and the thoughtfully made up metaphors.

Then again maybe I just know that I am perfectly capable of writing a 20 pages long script about Stonekeep but lack every ounce of energy necessary to make a watchable video out of that...
So GOG wants us to advertise for them yet again in exchange for games? Another 'competition' I won't be taking part in because I refuse to participate on stupid social media sites.

This is me. But minus Stonekeep. My other problem is that I don't have much nostalgia due to youth. I could talk for a long time about Arcanum or TLJ, but it wouldn't be coming from a nostalgic place.
