Recently playing on some channel or another, AMC I think. Anyway, anyone else like this movie? Guilty pleasure for me, I admit to finding it amusing. Bonus, the chance to stare at Kate Beckinsale. Learned they are thinking about a "reboot" with Tom Cruise. I find that humorous although I do like the character and material so likely would end up seeing that one as well.

Update: Anyone play the game that came out a year or so ago? I was tempted but it seemed a bit short for the money. They presumably fleshes it out more but I did not follow it to find out. If its any good maybe i will go back now.

I quitted the movie after 10mins of boring total BS.
Van Helsing = Peter Cushing :D
I remember to have liked the movie. The game looked interesting, but since more or less only Hack'n'Slash (AFAIK), it's not high on my priority list.
It had Kate Beckinsale, so yes I watched it and yes I liked it. If they are doing a remake they better bring back Kate. I'm already starved for a new Underworld movie.
Don't worry, muttly13, you are not alone. I do enjoy this movie in spite of its shallowness.

I thought the monster designs were really cool. Movies that show werewolves as honest-to-goodness werewolves always get points in my book. Also, I always love when vampires have a "were-bat" form. It's a detail that most vampire stories don't include, but this one does.

Kate Beckinsale certainly doesn't hurt either.

As for the video game, I've never played it and barely even recall it being released. It came out at a time when I was extremely poor, so many games from that time period slipped past me. I do, however, own the animated prequel short where Van Helsing is tracking down Mr. Hyde through the streets of London. Not a bad little short at all.
I enjoyed the movie, there's not too many dark movies like that.
It fits a certain niche I suppose. It wasn't perfect, but I did enjoy it.

I have the game too, it's not bad but don't expect too much.
Nevertheless, it's still fun if you enjoyed the movie and the world
it creates.

- Tim :)

EDIT:

This guy above me ^^^

I just watched Horror of Dracula again the other day. It's still good and Cushing is just awesome as Van Helsing.

The Van Helsing movie gave me a headache. It felt like it was nonstop shouting and stuff exploding for no particularly good reason.
I liked it, Drac was awesome in it :)

so shall we watch hammer horror movies then ?

probably still better then most current dracula movies
Too much action and epicness (read as: too much crappy CGI and comedy-like fights). Other than that, yeah - it's a movie. Not a terrible one, but not a good one either.

This but I plan to one day watch the one with Kate in it. I have boycotted all of Tom Cruise's movies since he went full cult retard...
Regarding my other post, I should say I was kind of upset with what Cushing ended up doing with the character. Abraham Van Helsing while flawed was always noble and to have him turn coat like that and take over command of The Death Star was just a major bummer.
I'm one also that liked the movie. Just watched it on AMC the other night. I was surprised to learn that the actor that played his monk friend is also the actor that played Farimir in LotR.
Also the vampire wives were nice to look at.
If you're keen on Helsing, you might be able to choke down that Hansel & Gretel film as well.
