I don't have my hopes up -- either Episode 3 or Portal 2 would probably be released two years after an official announcement. And as of fairly recently Gabe says they haven't even done any work on Episode 3 aside from concepts.

Im gonna be super pissed if portal 2 or Left 4 dead 3 (they may have plans for one) Come out before episode 3. ITS A TINY EPISODE! How long does it take? They have better revamped the engine for episode 3...

Meh, the Orange Box engine is still fine. I'm still confused why everyone keeps saying it's too old. And I'd rather they focus on finishing Ep3 (and Portal 2) instead of fucking around with engine code for 5 years.
But the reason it's taking so long is that they probably made it too large and it's slowly morphing into HL3. Which is just great.

Yes, looks fine to me ... people have been whining about the engine for years; never understood it. L4D2 looks really good. In fact, I cranked up Portal yesterday and I guess I haven't played it since I build my new machine and I was astounded how good it looked and sounded. Really uses 5:1 sound well, which I had not noticed before.

The real shock to the system is that System Shock 3 already came out, and they're going directly to System Shock 4! They'll reference the events to System Shock 3 frequently in System Shock 4.

Regardless of what you think of Valve, you have to admit their marketing department is very good.
