Have to say that this has been a lovely week on GOG. Got Hammerwatch, Dungeon Keeper 2, Ring Runner, and Rise of the Triad all for the price of Hammerwatch at regular price.

Kind of like I came here and got 4 free games. Thank you.
I should hold a giveaway for: There was only one game on my wishlist in this promo, guess how many I bought?

Thanks for the review! :)
I think I'll go with Megabyte punch and Hammerwatch, then. Plus, I'm going to pick up System Shock 2 and Alpha Centauri (last time I installed them from a phisycal copy I had to mess a bit too much with those two, so the GoG installers are welcome).

Glad to help. You may want to check out the Rebirth and hi-res texture mods for SS2 as well. I quite enjoy what they add to the game, and they don't mess up the gameplay itself.

Ghorpm: I've just finished the first act of Omerta and I would say that for 8$ it is a decent deal too. Contrary to the popular opinion It's definitely not a bad game per se. It's just terribly overpriced. But for 8 bucks it's really good deal. The gameplay is not great but tactical battles are good enough to keep you entertained. Strategic gameplay is much weaker, repetitive and not really challenging but it's still not that bad. I would say it's definitely worth spending 8 bucks on it.
To be honest, the cost in dollars isn't what is an issue for me. It's the cost in time. I work 60 hour work weeks, six days a week while also trying to study a foreign language and am looking at applying to uni. While also attending to my other hobbies.
It's not a case of, is the game worth spending a fiver on, it's a case of is it a good enough game to make it worth playing instead of so many other games available on gog . . Is there anything suitably good and unique about it to differentiate it from other games on GOG.
One of the best sales ever. Awesome selection of games, there are games for everyone on this promo. Love you, GOG!

That's hard to say because it's quite subjective.

There are a lot of funny references in this game, some serious other humorous (like character Mario "Two-Gun" Tucci shouting "It's mee!") but it hardly qualify as something important enough to consider it if you should purchase the game or not.

You know, there are a lot of games with tactical combat but I think I can name two things which are not necessarily unique but interesting to note:
1) Special abilities of your characters do matter a lot, especially in harder battles. A well thrown grenade can change the course of the battle. Intimidate may cause an enemy to flee from the battlefield, Act Now skill will cost all action points of your character but you will get to choose another character who will act instead of him (that is much sooner then he/she normally would). This skill, when used properly, can save you a lot of troubles. So yeah, it's an important part of combats and mastering it will make your life so much easier.
2) You don't have to play superman all the time. If your mission is to free somebody from a prison choose quick characters. Be quick, free him and escape. Don't try to fight every single guard. It's really nice because in many other games your main objective is "kill every single enemy", here it's not like that and on higher difficulty it's almost impossible to kill everybody.

I would never say it's unique game. But the redeeming value is quite constant - it's entertaining all the time, without sudden bursts of awesomeness but without frustration neither. For me it's enough to play and enjoy it. Not for 40$ for sure but for 8$ - any time.
