Amelie is incredible and it was my favorite film for a while, until A Very Long Engagement came along and took that place.

Haven't seen that one yet (in fact, I never heard about it before), but I'll look out for a BD release.
Another film that took me completely by surprise (and the whole cinema with me, as it got around 95% good ratings on the sneak preview night) was "Seducing Doctor Lewis", a film about a small, rundown Canadian town that has to attract a doctor as a requirement for the new factory. All, the characters are just so ... charming sounds terrible, but essentially that's it. They try to make everything perfect for their guest of honor, but there's a lot they simply don't understand.

Do yourself a favour and get it. This is a movie that you can watch over and over again and it'll still draw a smile.
Although right now I'm watching something else: Good old Ghostbusters... while the effects haven't aged very well (except for the Marshmallow man), this is Bill Murray at his best, and having Dan Aykroyd along with him doesn't hurt either. Sigourny Weaver is really the only actor that performs hilariously bad in this movie as she apparently takes it all too serious.

Oh man, I just watched it after mentioning it. It was the movie that Jeunet made after Amelie and I've got to say, there is not a single movie of his that I did not like. But now I'm in the mood for a western, I saw Sukiyaky Western Django the other day and it blew my mind, I may pop in the Sergio Leone Anthology again, but after I check out Seducing Doctor Lewis, there is nothing I love more than watching a movie I know nothing about and liking it a lot.

Not much of a western fan, but I suddenly felt the urge to dig out a classic as well: Dr. No. I'm still on strike as far as the new one is concerned... Casino Royal was an abomination. I have no problem with James Bond becoming more modern (although I still see Sean Connery as the only true Bond). Times are changing and James Bond has always changed with them, so I was always arguing for the newer ones like GoldenEye, but with Casino Royal they destroyed the order of things. How can you make a prequel, that mixes in Cellphones, Headsets and characters that were only present in the last few movies? And why in Satan's glorious name (as Prof. Farnsworth put it) do you create an intro with low-polygon characters for a movie that's supposed to happen before a 1960s movie? Grr...
Well, at least now they're bringing out the old Bonds on BD and let me tell you: this is different than an upconverted DVD. Picture quality doesn't seem terribly important for such old movies, but it is. Blocky pixels are just something that feels incredible out of place on such old movies and while the BD versions don't have perfect quality either, they have the "right" kind of errors: Colors and film grain.

Come on now, did your doctorate not teach you better than to use epithets and expletives??? I'm no scholar, but I can be more subtle and use wittier statements than him!!
