Reever: Nice thinking, but you have Romanians around here, so good luck with that :P

Maybe a new rule which would provide more incentive would make this work, like guaranteeing a game for the first one to see the code but NOT redeem it (with screenshot as a proof, or immediate PM).
Good thing I don't easily take offense. Should I?:)

The screenshot idea on the other hand is nice...

Considering that we all are a pretty anonymous group and you can't really control who gets the codes the "community" will never wait until for more games.

It would be interesting to do this more openly, so that you give the codes away to the first three who post that they want the games. So they have to "nick" the codes publicly.

I wanted to post earlier about how I found this to be an interesting idea, but I didn't want to take a slot from someone who actually wanted to win should the codes have lasted the full 24 hours. But now that this is over I would like to say that I like the idea. An even more interesting, albeit much more expensive, would be to offer a free game to everyone who posts so long as the code is not redeemed. You could even just post the code with out the name of the game and see how many people post saying that they tried and already had the game. Or if possible get a generic code good for any 9.99 game with the promise of a 5.99 Game to those who post but don't take it. My theory is that there will always be at least 1person in any group who is selfish enough to ruin it for everyone else.

Specific games in a way ensure that mostly those who are interested will enter. Generic codes will get everyone's attention. For a thorough experiment they might be preferable.

Yeah, that was pretty much my idea as well. But what you first said it's a problem, since there are people who just aren't interested in that (and/or bots). So this might actually work in a closed group or something.

In a closed circle where you know all the participants it just might work though. But with a limited number of participants and maybe taking into account the ideas posted earlier.

This would be a good experiment for some psychology major to set up in a public venue. For example, they could set up a table in a shopping center with a placard announcing the rules, which would be that a dollar (pound, euro, etc) would be put on the table, and every 60 seconds it would be doubled until someone took it. Once it was taken, it would start again a minute later at one dollar again.

I'd be curious to see how far self-restraint would go, and whether the people would form a self-policing group that let the payoffs reach decent levels or simply become a mob that snatched each dollar as it appeared.

People would be perfectly rational and utilitarian by snatching each dollar as it appears. Because everyone knows psych majors can't afford the payoffs to reach "decent levels".
