It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Hello everyone,
I would like to update you on the latest changes to GOG Downloader (the optional app that can be used to download your GOG.com purchases).
We have just released an updated version (0.9.30) which includes three important things:
1. a faster app core (thx to updated Adobe AIR Runtime, and jQuery 1.3.3)
2. updated file resuming, witch will now allow:
- more reliable auto-resuming, witch should fix _some_ of the problems
- auto discovery of incomplete/complete files
3. an option to send bug report to gog.com
If you have the downloader already installed, you will be notified about the update next time you launch the app; if you don't have the app yet, check out the list of downloads in My Account page for any of your purchases)
2. UPDATED APP CORE
While updating our source code, we also updated all libraries involved which should make the whole app a bit faster and less resource hungry.
3. UPDATED FILE RESUMING
This was, and still is, the most important thing about the downloader. We have received numerous reports from our users, that there are issues with this, especially on slower, less reliable, connections.
The real problem with fixing this is actually recreating this situation, to have a peek at what's really causing this. We tried a lot of different setups, we've used faulty network hardware, we used cellphones as modems to access Internet, we tried disconnecting cables on different levels of the connection, we used software to slow the connection down, we tried downloading files to very slow hard drives, but so far we couldn't recreate problems that some of you were experiencing.
So, as the first step, we changed the way that files are handled, discovered, and resumed. It should help with at least some of the problems.
The second thing, was to enable the downloader app to discover files from previous sessions. This means that if you have an incomplete file backed up before the downloader encountered an error, you can copy that incomplete file into download folder, then add the game to the downloader again, and the app will continue from the incomplete file instead of starting at zero. This is hardly a resolution for the problem, but it will at least allow for some temporary workaround, until we get all the issues sorted out.
So if you have problems using the downloader, you can try to:
1. Start the download normally
2. From time to time, make a copy of the temporary files in the GOG Downloader downloads folder to a safe backup location
3. If the downloader encounters an error click "Send report" (more info below), and shut it down
4. Copy your backed up files back into GOG Downloader downloads folder
5. Relaunch the app, and resume the transfer (or add the game again using the website), the transfer should resume at the point of last backup
Please remember, that this is only a temporary workaround as we work on fixing all the real issues.
3. BUG REPORTS
As mentioned before, we are adding an option to submit bug reports straight from the downloader. Every time you encounter an error while using GOG Downloader, you will have an option to "Send report" to us - please click on it, as it is essential for understanding and solving the problems :).
The report includes:
* GOG Downloader application logs (detailed information about file transfers and errors)
* your gog.com user name
Report does NOT include:
* any personal or hardware info (no hardware logs, no apps list, etc)
We will keep these logs as short as possible and we'll be using them only to find & fix bugs in GOG Downloader. After that we will delete them. We won't spam you, won't spy on your system and won't create any stats regarding downloader and it's usage.

Venom: You would have to use the cookie that you received from gog.com in your browser. But we haven't test it, so i can't guarantee it will work.

Einkoro: Doesn't seem to be working with either --load-cookies or sending them with --header :(
Looks like I'll have to wait for the next gogdownloader update and try again then.

If you use Firefox, the FlashGet extension can be configured to use launch Wget in an external terminal window. I'm trying it now on one of my GOG games, and so far it seems to work.

Camino user myself but I have Firefox installed for development so I'll give the extension a try. Thanks.
Edit: Doesn't seem to work on OS X. I get the following in the log:
Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIProcess.init]
Looks like its trying to launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app and not the executable /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app/Contents/MacOS/Terminal
FlashGot's options won't let me change the path beyond selecting the application with browse. :(
Edit 2: I can get a download going with wget in terminal using the output from FlashGot's log but I can't seem to resume without a 403 when there is a connection error. :(
Edit 3: Resume working. Not exactly a convenient way to download it but its working. Just needed to use --output-document to avoid all the variables being appended to the filename. Just a matter of copying and pasting the output in the log and escaping & and whenever I need to resume.

Oh, I assumed you were using Linux. I don't know how well it works on OS X. At least you kinda got it working. Actually, I'd like GOG to make the downloads a bit more Wget friendly, since it really is about the most powerful DM out there.
Since this is the official gog.com downloader topic I was wondering if there was any reason why I'm getting some very slow speeds (I'm talking about < 5kb/s). I downloaded another file from another site at the same time and I got in the range of 50kb/s. The download speed from the gogDownloader never fluctuated. Is there something I can do to encourage the downloader to move faster?

unrealcyn, basically there shouldn't be any difference in download speed when using downloader vs using the browser. Could you please let us know if you experience such slow downloads when downloading directly from our server (via browser, without using GOG.com Downloader)?

I tried downloading using the browser initially, before I went with the downloader. The download would start out pretty good (40kbps+) at first before slowing to dial-up speeds and then suddenly stopping at around 10% or 20%. I waited a while but it did not continue to download or anything. I'm using Opera as my browser; do you think that could be the problem? I download pretty quickly from other sites though.

unrealcyn, the Opera is not a problem here, that's for sure. Actually, as you've confirmed that downloads via the browser are slow as well, I'm afraid the problem might be the connection between your ISP and our Content Delivery Network. It should improve with time, as the CDN is adding new nodes around the world all the time, but at this moment - and I'm really sorry to say that - I'm afraid we cannot do anything to improve the download speed for you :(
PS: Apart from the slow download speeds, were you able to download your purchased games via GOG.com Downloader?

Yes, I was still able to download the games, and at the end of the day that's what really matters! Thanks again for your help though and for allowing me to get these games!
Hi,
I have a small problem with the downloader. It worked fine (albeit very slow) for Freespace, but then ever since when I open the program it just stays in the taskbar. I can click it or right click > restore and no window shows up.
Anyone have any ideas?
Can't resume either, game is Jagged Alliance 2. Sent an email with log.
TBH i think it would've been a better idea to build an app from scrach instead of using AIR
Looks like wget isn't working so good. Everything I've manage to complete with it from gog complains that is corrupted when I run the installers. :(

I've been having the same trouble on my end: AIR declares the installer corrupt, no matter how I download it.
Could we get the size of a working downloader install? I've been consistently getting a file 832 KB in size, finished near instantly, which shouldn't be the case: I've only been pulling speeds of about 50kb/s, 80kb/s when my connection is feeling generous.
EDIT: Oh wait, I misread the post.
You're having trouble with the downloaded installers, not the download manager installer. My bad.

have you tried pausing your download half-way through? works for most people.
Unfortunately, the download finishes as soon as I start it, so that really isn't an option.
In retrospect, I should have phrased that sentence as "instantly", rather than "near instantly."
I've had this happen before with other sites and other files, and generally, the way I got around it was downloading from a different mirror. Alas, there is no other mirror I can get the downloader from.
