Any chance to get the installers updated?

I mean like, fix the bloat that every installer adds into the registry, fix the obvious Games Explorer bug, and fix the "keep saved games" or whatever that dialog is when you delete a game.

Or does one need to make custom installers to get over that...

Speaking of bloat without screenshots and proof is like saying you can walk on water and you taught your dog to play halo...

edit: OK so i searched every hive, there are 2 entries for the Downloader, and each games have a single hive to it... And there is a main GOG Hive with subs divided into installed games... (which only have about 15 entries per game)

No matter what the problem is, there is a problem. Like it or not, the installers add useless stuff into the registry. Why add stuff for Dosbox when you install a game that doesn't need it.

The Games Explorer bug can easily be avoided if Orca its used during the making of the installer.

It takes no more than 15 minutes to fix the problems.

Don't bash someone for pointing out problems, dammit.

Tell me why you consider the registry to be a bad idea. I'm honestly curious and you will learn a thing or two about it in the process.

Why doesn't configuration belong in a program's own folder?

EDIT: Also, registry entries can be hard to find. Changing something as simple as the default program that is used to edit images when I right-click and hit "Edit" becomes something that I need to look up on the internet to find the damn path. I suppose, in retrospect, I could have searching the registry for mspaint to see what was going on, but I shouldn't have to search - these things should be intuitive.

It is awfully prone to corruption. You may be fine with that, I am not.

can anyone stop proving points and give an example of what your talking about? Cause i have a crapton of GOG games and Ive never had a single issue installing running or setting up one of them.. plus Ive noticed not a single ounce of slowdown on my old machine or my state-o-the-art machine

For one because you can't apply & manage global policies to folder the way you can with the registry.

A second reason would be that it's faster and easier to access that data via the registry because of the single API versus different read/write based on each programs config file structure.

The third reason is because you don't want anyone to be able to modify the config of your app without having proper access to it.

A fourth is that it adds absolutely no overhead to the system and that you can do proper logging and auditing, things which can't be done easily with a file.
Corruption hasn't been a problem since Windows 98. Please give me an example of how your registry got corrupted.

Dude, chill out, nobody accused you of anything, they just asked for proof/examples of what you are talking about. I think we were all aware of the problems with Games Explorer, but the registry "bloat" you speak of is a new one to most of us.
