I think if you install the GOG downloader then it will automatically update any games as patches come out.

Keep in mind that update doesn't necessarily mean the actual game is updated, it may mean there are more extras. If you look in the details at one of the games with an "updated" tag on it, then one of the items that you can dowload will have a similar tag. Perhaps some new art, an updated manual, or perhaps a patch to the game.

By downloading again the files which were updated.

If you are talking about the updates that came yesterday, they seemed to be "only" for the extras, like manuals, reference cards, some "making of" video etc. No actual updates to game installers, if I recall correctly.

Aha, here's the list:

Can someone confirm if that really works already (ie. the downloader automatically checks all the GOG installation files and extras in the GOG downloader download directory)? Or does it do the checking only if you try to redownload the files to the same directory where they exist already?

At least I don't think the downloader updates the installed games? At best it checks that the installation files are up to date, but the installation needs to be run again?

when you're on "My Games" page look about one inch down where "My collection" shelf starts... in the middle of this top-most shelf there should be two buttons, something like "all games" and "new/updated" with numbers telling you how many games are new... so clicking on the "new/updated" filters only games that have been updated. once clicked, pick a game and you'll see what has been updated by the little red "new" icon next to an item

but bear in mind that once you've visited your "My Games" page and fiddled around a bit, next time you log in and go there all this will disappear (the page will think you've already noticed and downloaded the updates)

No, I'm sure it won't update the installed copy in situ. However I'm pretty sure I've seen my installer be updated, and a notification to tell me so.

Ok. Just a clarification when you said it updates the "games", meaning the installation files.

Actually, we updated at least three installers and added a patch (all with notifications :D). Giana Sisters(new installer that features version 1.01 of the game), Lucius (patch for previous installers and an all-new installer that includes the patched game), and a new installer for Hotline Miami :D

So to clarify on the second piece of text you bolded. Does the downloader patch the installed game, or does it require re-installation (or installation of a patch)? If the former, what if we're playing it at the time?

I think I accidentally bolded the wrong text :D but I'll see what I can find out for you, how's that sound? :D
