Does anyone know if Disney plans on releasing the theatrical versions of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi? I recall there was a DVD release (with the special edition), where they were included; however, they are out of print, and cost prohibitive to obtain.
possible but doubtfull

and the dvd's you mean are the 2006 limited editions with non anamorphic 1993 laser disc transfers of the originals

and they arent that expensive
about 20 bucks each

Yeah, my brother managed to get each of them new and at a reasonable price last year in Germany (where he lives). I'd be surprised if they were suddenly insanely expensive.

probably because they are pisspoor barebones transfers that arent cleaned up
then again the laser disc versions of the trilogy are cheap too

and that not cleaned actually fits star wars more they are supposed to be slightly fuzzy and grungy
i prefer them on vhs anyway
Disney better bloody well release the theatrical cuts remastered but otherwise untouched.

Disney needs to earn more good will, especially with the Star Wars fanbase, and if anything could generate that it'd be a blu-ray release of the original trilogy without McGoiter's tamperings.

The official theatrical DVD releases are awful. They are just copies of an early 1990s Laserdisc transfer. Google "Harmy's Despecialized Edition" for an infinitely better fan-made reconstruction of the theatrical versions.

It's pretty clear Lucas just shat the original cuts onto DVD in as cheap a fashion as possible to make his "Special" editions look better.

1993 laser disc boxset

why do you think they are still so cheap used ?

Exactly. "Here are the bloody originals, see how crappy they look compared to my new hotness? Happy now?"

a few minor edits to the 2004 versions would make them a lot better
mostly :

episode 4 :
greedo shoots first
remove the jabba scene or make jabba a hologram
the dubious censorship in the death star

episode 5 :
that stupid bloody scream when luke jumps

episode 6 :
...jedi rocks ...just just no

all of them : light saber consistency blue is blue not green
red is not pink

id be happy with those edits personally

im not even going to speak about the blu ray editions just more assinine edits for the sake of edits
I still have the uncut starwars vhs and the dvd set 456 from HMV at the time was around 29.99 and now its around 69.9... but in all due respect it is the way better version
