I've been waiting for some footage of this movie for a while and was really excited to know it was in production. This is not what I had hoped for though and I feel a bit disapointed now. I was expecting something like the dawn of war or dawn of war 2 intro made into a full length movie. I don't see it hitting the cinemas as it currently is, maybe a straight to dvd.

Nope this is meant to be bigger, they have Dan Abnett as lead script writer then they are using the studio responsible for I think its the Bionicle animated cartoons. It does look more fan made then professional though hence my disapointment.

The voiceover you hear in that trailer is Malcolm McDowell and the major stars of the film are Terrence Stamp and Sean Pertwee. All three are well known for their excellent voice work in movies and video games (as well as their regular acting, of course). I seriously doubt what we saw in the trailer is representative of what the whole film will be like.
It was always planned as a straight to DVD release.

It was a short clip but to me this just looks too clean and shiny for 40K, like it could simply be a Halo/Gears of War/Starcraft movie if you were to change the setting a little. If I was ever going to watch a movie about the 40K universe and not feel the cheese from the moment I lifted the DVD box, I would want it to emphasise the gothic nature of the IP and follow an Inquisitor and his retinue, for example. And I wouldn't want the Marines anywhere near the plot. But that's just me.
Still, congratulations to the producers for even getting this off the ground in the first place.

Well thats a shame, I wish Gamesworkshop would have more faith in their IP and aim higher with it sometimes.

The CGI looks in parts worse than that Final Fantasy film, which is unfortunate.
Really not sure if this is worth a look, and I'd like to second Aliasalpha about the smurfs. I'm assuming they got picked because everyone knows that chapter?

Ah, yes, you are correct. I often mix the two of them up when it's just a voiceover (can't possibly mix them up visually). Either way, the point still stands, we are talking about some very accomplished actors who are no strangers to voice work. That one trailer can't possibly be representative of the voice work in the film as a whole.

I reckon smurfs get picked because they're easy. No codex deviations (other than the occasional "Ooh we fight tyranids so much we're slightly specialised, how rebellious!") means they just have to set up the genetically engineered super soldier (who are way cooler than any of the poser wannabe supersoldiers) and talk about the emperor a lot. With other chapters they have to set up additional information or lose the uniqueness of a non smurf chapter.
