Are there any Ultima games that let you play as an evil character? It seems most of them force you to play as the good guy.
You can make "not-so-nice" choices in Ultima Underworld 1 when talking to people and you can slaughter whole groups of people later in the game when you're powerful enough, but in the end you still want to save the Baron's daughter, so I'm not sure that it counts.

An evil character? My Paladin would like to have a word with you. lol

Joking, sorry I have no real reply to the question, I'm unfamiliar with Ultima.
Nope.

For a game that is considered a golden treasure to Role-Playing games Ultima sort of back-peddles on the "Role-playing" aspect. In some cases:

Ultima 4: THE GAME IS ALL ABOUT BEING THE GOOD GUY!!

Ultima 7 Part 1: Forced to play as a Blonde-Haired and Blue Eyed White man or woman. Though rectifyed in Part 2 the choices for portraits are rather poor that just rather have the Blonde Hair man for continuities sake.

Ultima 8: The reverse of Ultima 4 in that you have to do evil things and only evil things to succeed.

In Fallout my actions can affect nearly everything that happens in the wasteland. I could choose to be a good guy or sell out my Vault to Super Mutants among other things.

Thanks. I'm going to go install Ultima Underworld now. :) And a character's reason to save the baron's daughter could be far from good. :) Fame, a reward or more.

Never beaten Ultima 8 but the athmosphere is invinting and the soundtrack is awesome, but of course you heard of the flaws and they are present, but most fan still likes this game for what it could have benn, but sadly never came to be. It could have been Diablo before Diablo.
Armageddon Spell. nuff said. ;)

In Ultimas 1-3, you can steal from shops and murder towns. There's genocide in some games. I seem to recall having a collection of bodies in my backpack in Ultima 7 at one point*. Also, it's possible to kill Lord British much of the series.

*Uhhh... for resurrection of course!

Ultima 4's Armageddon is pointless because the moment you leave an area or go up and down a ladder, everyone comes back to life :P

I don't know I've never tried an evil character in Ultima. :P The one's I have tried evil characters with make it so damn hard it just isn't worth it. Oh sure, the box says play as "good or evil" but merchants stop selling to you, half the places you enter get the town guards on your ass, no one gives you any quest tips, and good luck getting near any kind of guild. Ever go out of your way to piss people off in Freelancer? You have to stop using the jump gates because they begin shooting at you! :O

Yes, but think of the experience points! Muwahahahahaha!

...you could reach lvl 8 in no time. XD
I think 1,2,3 let you basically be good or evil.
