tinyE: But the computer is in my room.

I can't possibly put office furniture into a bedroom. For the love of god, we aren't savages!

HiPhish: What on earth are you sitting on then? Please don't tell me you're sitting on your bed.
A folding chair using a cargo hatch from an old tall ship as a table.

In that case it's a miracle your arms and hands haven't fallen off yet. Seriously, get good furniture. Operating a computer for long time without in an inadequate posture is like operating toxic cemicals without any protection. Good chairs and desks aren't cheap, but you health should be worth it. Switching chairs was a difference like day and night for me. I still need to find a good desk, but I can't find anything that suits my needs in both comfort and functionality.

Okay, unfortunately the nearest furniture store is 100 miles away so can't exactly run off and do it now. :D Besides, the hatch REALLY brings the room together, like that rug. For all I know this thing could have come from The Bounty or The Essex. I'd suggest it might even be from the Bismarck but that never made it away from the coast of Europe, did it? :P I kid! I kid!

The cargo hatch (provided it doesn't slope away from you, and is simply a flat surface) might be okay, because it has the benefit of being height adjustable by you... I assume, unless you have it converted to a fixed height. This is actually a major feature in ergonomic desks, so you might be able to research the proper desk height for you and set it up right.

The folding chair is going to kill you. Like flat out stab you in the eye, sleep with your wife and sell your children into slavery kill you.

No shit?
The table is fixed but if I get a good chair that might not be a problem and I can do that without too much trouble, To get the table out of here I'd have to empty the whole room! What is so bad about a folding chair? the height? The flatness?

Give this article a read, and basically everything is says a good egonomic chair needs, a folding chair is lacking. It leads to undue pressure and lack of support, which could lead to back and nerve damage over time. A folding chair also cuts circulation to the legs due to the hard front edge, which can result in MAJOR problems (up to and including heart problems) down the road.

It'd be awesome if you could keep the table... do you have a picture by any chance? It sounds pretty cool actually.

No picture right now, I might have an old one somewhere. It's been in our family for eons.

I might be putting a band aid on a shark bite right now but in a pitch I 86d the folding chair and took a high back table hand carved log chair from the old cabin next door. It's higher off the ground if nothing else
If it has more support it'll be an improvement at least.

I'm not trying to freak you out. But If you use a computer for extended periods of time gaming etc., this WILL eventually get worse if you don't make a few modifications to your life. A little advance thinking now could mean this never gets bad enough to interfere with your future plans at all. Even if that means taking a few breaks while gaming. :)

What I can't figure is that nothing like this has happened until now, as I near forty. I've been a slouching couch potato/game addict my whole life and now this happens. Of course I had cataracts at 30 and again at 36 so maybe I should have expected it. :D
