And FYI, it's Steam, you have no recourse regardless once the game is no longer a pre-order, if you've ever had a refund from them once, you're not getting another one.
It's not about belief, it's about recourse.
If I tell you, "there's a big invisable hole 5 feet in front of where you are walking", and you ignore me because someone else tells you they walked past there just fine, and you fall, it's your own fault.

AC 2 is available on Steam for Pre-order.
EDIT:
Fuck even there:
3rd-party DRM:
UBISOFT REQUIRES A PERMANENT HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT TO PLAY THIS VIDEO GAME AT ALL TIMES.

I personally will avoid any ubisoft product with this DRM, whether or not it is on a PC. eg. when AC3 comes out - I will not buy it on a PC or the xbox (or the P3, which I don't have - but we are talking about the unknown future). I strongly suggest that gamers develop discipline and backbone and follow my example.
Its wrong to put the onus on retailers.
[edit: 2 years from now I might buy it on steam with the $5 or $10 fire sale]

Since I don't buy games with intrusive DRM, this is an incredibly easy game to pass up.
I do find it interesting that Ubisoft feels so strongly about the protection this system will give their games. I have not read every post but it seems there will be no other DRM included with this game (Steam says yes but really it's no??). . . Ubisoft's system is that good ??? . . .so . . .
It won't be long before a fixed.exe appears which removes the online entirely. At that point, I may consider buying the game since I won't be bothered by other types of DRM installs. This could be a good thing for those of us who are willing to wait.
Of course, if it has SecuROM, etc. on the boxed version . . . it's a no-buy for me and says their "new" DRM is not about piracy but . . . something else . . . no need to use more than one kind of DRM . . . oh, wait . . .=)

I think Ubisoft is retarded. The last Ubisoft game I liked was an XBLA only title labelled "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade." I hate Ass Creed and am not interested in Ass Creed 2, I hated Raving Rabbids, and I hate the whole Tom Clancy/Splinter Cell bullshit too. Ubisoft sells some of the worst games ever and them adopting a more aggressive DRM scheme isn't going to convince me to buy their shit games any more.

AC 2 is one of the few golden pearls Ubisoft ever released, along BGaE and the first two PoP games... but well, seems like it'S time to move on,huh?
Damn, and I was really going to buy Forgotten Sands...

Most of the reason people didn't like it was because it felt kind of like a railshooter, not much interaction beyond "start spectacular move" and the occasional press of a jump button.
I'm glad I played it but it wasn't anything special. The dialogue was excellent but extremely anachronistic, way too modern and it really disrupted the immersion
