I admire your optimism, trust me if Ubisoft comes back on GOG in the next months I call shenanigans and officially consider them to be complete wackos/loonies/jackasses (I've high standards for my "official" stances. Bear with me).
I never thought the second-hand market would be so important as to force game companies to deploy very restrictive DRM measures to counter it.
Ironically enough it's in these times of most restrictive protection schemes that reselling your game would come in handy.
I personaly never resold any of my games... for some of the new titles I would have considered it after all.
PS: Didn't Ubisoft make an official statement somewhere their new DRM was specifically targeted at fighting Piracy? Ubi is naive after all...

I can see the technical distinction, but legally, it shouldn't be any different from keeping vital game data server side (as is the case now). Whether it's code or data, it's still an essential part of the game, without which the game cannot be played.

They could even be said perhaps, to be full of flapdoodle? ;-)

It has no DRM. I mean, just wtf? Do they want to throw these games to the pirates or do I understand Ubisoft's logic?
They even didn't add The Two Thrones because it still has Star Force protection.

SpiderwebSoftware release massive, huge demos that are unlocked by a code as close to instantly as Jeff can get to his computer once you've paid, which you can get redone whenever you need it. If you order the game on CD, it comes with no DRM whatsoever. The CD version is free, bar shipping ($4 international).
Have a go at the big guys, but describing Spiderweb Software - or any shareware developer - as having DRM that one should be careful about is a baseless shot which will hurt their reputation on internet fora like this.

Weren't there a PS3 game with activation limits or something? And caused an uproar among the userbase? The times of reselling used console games might also come to an end...

I totally agree. His/her one prediction on what the DRM system will be this summer either already exists or is the obvious next step (depending on how what is said is interpreted). It could be an insider, it might not be, but i feel it is largely irrelevant. There is no new information here, and it is just a lot of preaching to the choir (pretty sure slashdot regulars would be an easy audience for this sort of thing).
Wait, you expect their arguments to be more than just propaganda for the ignorant? Their piracy figures are verging on delusional, so I wouldn't be surprised if their 'estimates' of second hand PC game sales are also ridiculous. Whatever it takes to appease the shareholders...

It's the old game of "cover your own ass". Execs have to find some excuse for why this or that game didn't sell as many copies as they'd said it would. If it wasn't piracy or second hand sales, it would just be something else, at this time, probably the recession. Things you can be damned sure they'll NEVER blame it on is "we made a game that sucked and nobody wanted" or "due to the fact that we treat our customers like dirt, nobody wants to buy our products".

Well as a person who has, you know, PLAYED the game, I can tell you that you're getting the wrong impression.
Video is a very dubious way of checking out a game, if someone plays the game in your style it's good but if someone plays it like a brainless run & gun then thats how it will look. I've spent 20 minutes planning a room takedown only to be screwed up by impatiently moving at the wrong time. There are levels where you can't be detected or you fail or where detection triggers reenforcements which makes it harder.
Despite the more action oriented appearance, the game is still largely splinter cell

Speaking of SC:C I found a torrent with Skidrow's crack on it online. My god these people work fast.
