Well, at least the pirates won't be affected.
So nice that people can't play their SINGLE PLAYER games because some server in a different part of the world is getting maintenance.

Thanks Ubisoft!!!

btw, I thankfully don't own those games. I don't buy newer Ubisoft stuff anymore.
And just like any MMO game has maintenance days. So, what is the big deal? I constantly get Steam is down / busy messages, and I don't see much hate about Valve.
A server move, unlike maintenance, usually lasts more than an hour or two. This could potentially take the entire day or longer.

With Steam, you at least have the flaky offline mode for your single-player games.
Yeah my Steam is currently in offline mode so I can play any of my Steam games that i have installed at least without internet.

+1 Steam will run mostly without problems in offline mode (most games require/want at least one run in online mode before they run in offline.

The UBIsoft DRM is just crazy in forcing you online all the time to play singleplayer content - eh I don't buy any game with that requirement (stopped my buying SC2 early until they dropped it and its stopping me buying Diablo 3 until/if they drop it).
Well, to be fair, it's not like anyone actually plays Settlers 7, HoMM6, or HAWX 2, the only PC games to be affected.

well i don't, and offline mode has always worked for me.

UbiSoft doesn't even allow for that option in some of their games. that's inexcusable, IMO.

Actually, as I have said in that other thread in my reply to you, at least Settlers 7 has an offline mode.

This isn't are smart move by Ubisoft, certainly, and should be avoided. But it's hardly as bad the article makes it to be.

Except that you can. They have an offline mode just like Steam does. Something RPS, et. al. don't bother mentioning. The only ones that won't be playable at all are the ones with online integration in the single player component, such as Settlers 7. But Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell Conviction, Driver San Fran, etc., all have an offline mode.

Sorry, but your post wasn't in this thread when I was writing mine, so no. I didn't read it. But it's nice to see that even Settler's 7 now has an offline mode. It didn't the last time I played it.

I had connection problems, so I played half the campaign without going online in the first place. I do, however, own the game on Steam. Does this make a difference?

And, e.g., Anno 2070 has some substantial "online elements" in SP and still has an offline mode. So I think everybody should be save.
So to summarise, the news is that PC gamers will have to switch to offline mode for a few hours to play Tom Clancy's HAWX 2, Might & Magic: Heroes 6 and The Settlers 7?

First world problems much?
Sounds about right.
