This was a great tip (AV forum): I found a review for this type (just a smaller version) and there was one thing that concerns me: The reviewer says that it stutters form time to time, but aside from that a great tv. Well sorry but stuttering is unacceptable to me. I've seen some expensive tv's in shops do that to. Why would anybody just deal with that like it isn't a real issue...

really glad it was helpful, i spent about a month on there looking for mine and i still use it to this day, gotta love AV Forums (i use the uk version for obvious reasons).
I was going to post some brand model series that are usually of high quality, but since I see you've done something that many people are unwilling to do by taking the initiative to visit a place like the AV forum, that's probably the best thing for you to do to find what works best for you. You can get away with impulse purchases for movies and games, but with a big purchase that you're likely to be using daily for several years. I highly recommend trying to make as much of an informed decision as you're capable of. Even the top brands make shitty TVs sometimes and sometimes what is a brand's high-end model might lose some important features in the next generation or be manufactured in different factories. Give it some time so you can mull over the info. Too many times people decide that they need a TV right now or they wait until their old one breaks and so make hasty decisions that they might regret. I've done it plenty of times before too.

I can't recommend specific models because I have not shopped for a new TV for awhile and I've pretty much decided to make a projector my next purchase and have been mulling over information about them lately.

As for the size, it might sound crazy now because you know you will be able to watch a 46" TV from your viewing distance and get by all right, but from my experience it is not optimal and it might become noticeable enough to be distracting at times if you start to become more informed and more picky about details like that. If you can afford to shell out a little more, I suggest shooting for at least 55". Preferably 60" or greater though. Perhaps decrease viewing distance as a cheaper alternative if that is possible.

Especially get a bigger TV if you want to have a computer hooked up to it. A person can hold down Ctrl while using the mouse wheel to easily zoom in and out with web browsers, but many programs that I use casually don't zoom and the text can be difficult to read without changing to low resolutions. I stress the word "casually" before any butt heads come in and try to give me flak for hooking up a computer to a television.

I'm kind of disappointed Sony is getting out of the business. I love their TV's, great quality and they last. My last Samsung, died after one month. Thankfully, it was under warranty, the guy had to replace the whole screen, and he said it was a well known and frequent problem with the model. It's been running ever since, but left me wary of the brand ever since. I'm not sure where I will turn to after Sony leaves the market, but I doubt it will be a Samsung.
