CDP Days 2011 Spring Conference has just finished and everything is clear now. If you haven't been able to tune in to watch the live stream, don't worry. We've prepared a quick summary of our presentation with a video recap for your convenience. So, let's not wait any longer.

At the very beginning we had to brag a bit about how awesome the service is doing, of course thanks to you - our great users. And then, suddenly, the lights went off, creepy moans started letting out from all over the place while The EnigmaticT tried to discern something in the dark with his flashlight.

Worry not, it was the announcement of Alone in the Dark, that comes with Alone in the Dark 2 and Alone in the Dark 3 as free bonus materials! This great series starts a new wave of Atari games that will be available in the coming weeks! And on 10th of May as the last game from Atari, we'll release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. What's even cooler we're going to have a special, time-limited offer that will give you a 50% discount, so the game will cost you only $4.99!

As we're on the subject of The Witcher, we had more cool stuff about its upcoming sequel on GOG.com. Starting on May 10, everyone who pre-order The Witcher 2 on GOG.com will be able to pre-purchase the game and download 90% of the build, so they can play the game on release day! So if you haven't pre-ordered the game yet, you'd better do that before May 16! More details on The Witcher deals can be found here.

Pre-downloading such huge game like The Witcher 2 is some serious business, and you'd need some serious downloader to do that. That's where the GOG.com Spring Site Update comes in! Late April we'll introduce a brand new, improved and slick GOG Downloader which will allow you to download all your GOG games fast and easy. What else? Personal messaging will be now possible for all our users!

But that's not all! At the very end, spotlight was on your favourite French Monk, who had some news regarding new publishers coming to the site. Microsoft, Electronic Arts, LucasArts, Take2 and SquareEnix - one of those publishers is already signed, while two more from the list are almost on board! Which and when is coming? Well, you'll have to wait a bit for that :)

You can watch the video recap of the presentation here. Enjoy!

doccarnby: As an American, I do prefer the month/day/year system. As an American, I can say, fuck the 'standard' measurement system. How the hell does anybody come up with such a crappy, convoluted system?
avatar
Chris.d: Troll detected!
God damn it, should I go back and edit that to use 'United States customary units' instead? Because, as I said, I was taught they were called 'standard' measurements.
avatar
kreidos: Anyone heard of Irrational Games? They just so happen to own the license for the top 2 requested games on the request board, (System Shock series).
What on earth makes you believe that?

Ken Levine has said publicly that he spent a considerable sum of money attempting and failing to track down the rights to System Shock after Looking Glass closed. Bioshock wasn't "System Shock 3" because they didn't have the rights, and unless something has changed in the interim, this is still the case.

Uh it was working fine for thousands of years before your country cocked with it =P. Then this is the same country that struggles to spell a lot of words properly and so dumbs them down by dropping vowels (e.g colour). In fact I'm surprised country hasn't been changed to contry yet or cuntry :P *titters childishly*. You might think those letters are waste material but they do actually indicate a different pronounciation. Still English is a language bastardized from half a dozen other languages which is why it's one of the hardest to learn for foreigners.

Did you know that when the Normans took over and started importing their titles over, they chose to keep the title Earl instead of using Count because it was too close to the English word cunt. True story.

fix-cz: Riverside is great! Good music choice GOG monks!
avatar
thelovebat: What music was it? I'm very interested and missed the stream today.
There were some game art pictures with background music - the song was Forgotten Land by Riverside (progressive rock/metal band from Poland). I have 4 albums from them, but this song was not on any of those, so maybe it's from some upcoming album or some special song exclusive to TW2.

Anyway you can watch the conference here http://www.gog.com/en/news/tune_in_to_watch_cdp_days_2011_spring_conference
(jump to time 24:18)

edit: Ok, googled it: Forgotten Land is song from upcoming EP "Memories In My Head"

I see the America/World discussion got out of hand, and I can see I probably had a hand in this. I'd like to say that it was not my intention and, just in case anyone was actually offended, my comment about 'filthy colonist upstarts' was a joke. I was so surprised to see the heated argument raging back on forth when I popped in today, that I dropped my monocle in my tea.

I'd like to make a comment re: America saved the day and won the war but in the interest of ending this bloody silly argument and get back on track, I won't. Like someone said, this isn't the place. Can't we all just get along?

Now, who's up for discussing some games!

All of you? Smashing!

matvader3: But do keep in mind, if it were not for hundreds of thousands of "filthy upstart Colonist yanks", you EU chaps would still be goose stepping in front of the swastika. On behalf of my Grandparents generation, "your welcome".
I'm being careful about my reply because I don't want to start a flame war. So I'll simply say "puhleez...."

Peace!
And on behalf of my grandparents let me say "Fuck you for profiteering from World War 2, fuck you for deliberately taking apart the British Empire so that you could take the assets for yourselves after WW2, fuck you for attempting to rewrite history to make out you were the heroes who did everything, fuck you for giving us a bill despite claiming to be our allies and our aide in your fight against Japan, fuck you for your consistent screwing over of your allies. Just fuck you."

Bashing America is not on, but don't be insulting our grandparents' actions nor make such insulting claims or deride other countries in doing so. It makes you just as bad, and results in someone like me having to vent all over your face.

Now, back to our previously scheduled programming.

"That's where the GOG.com Spring Site Update comes in! Late April we'll introduce a brand new, improved and slick GOG Downloader which will allow you to download all your GOG games fast and easy."

Just so we are crystal clear; I do not want to use any download clients.

I'm fine with you making a client as bling as it pleases you to do so, but do NOT force me to use it.

I don't want anyone's e-tail crap-ware (i say this in the nicest possible way), so make sure I can still do a plain old http download.
I almost wet my pants when I read LucasArts. I guess they start by releasing the four titles already available elsewhere (the two indys, Loom and the Dig) which I already have but i'm willing to buy at least Loom again if you either release it with the audiodrama or non-talkie version.

Either way, I think Day of the Tentacle with Maniac Mansion and Sam & Max: Hit the Road would make a nice 10 dollar pack.

If you read the earlier posts, you would know that downloader is NOT obligatory.

Actually, you've got that entirely wrong. This is precisely why English is relatively easy to learn, at least for everyday use (it takes a lot more effort before you can start reading and enjoying Joyce). All major European language groups will find something they can easily relate to in English, which makes picking it up a lot easier. We Slavic people least of all, but it still isn't hard. English spelling is tricky, but grammar isn't half bad.

Go ahead and try learning Czech or Hungarian. You'll change your mind pretty soon.

Or Polish.:D
You know what would be nice for a spring update?

That people could get banned from trolling in the forums(for a while or forever) but they can still buy games, even if it takes us to accept a new TOS or whatever that is called.

Also congrats on the Witcher 1 and Alone in The Dark offer!

v1989: Or Polish.:D
Yes, or Finnish.

I'm told Czech is somewhat harder than Polish, though, but I can't really judge that for myself, for obvious reasons. I've heard many foreign students of Czech exclaiming in despair that each grammatical rule in the language has more exceptions than cases where it actually works, which isn't as much of an exaggeration as it seems; I believe that is not as much the case with Polish. I could be wrong, though.
