CDP Days 2011 Spring Conference has just finished and everything is clear now. If you haven't been able to tune in to watch the live stream, don't worry. We've prepared a quick summary of our presentation with a video recap for your convenience. So, let's not wait any longer.

At the very beginning we had to brag a bit about how awesome the service is doing, of course thanks to you - our great users. And then, suddenly, the lights went off, creepy moans started letting out from all over the place while The EnigmaticT tried to discern something in the dark with his flashlight.

Worry not, it was the announcement of Alone in the Dark, that comes with Alone in the Dark 2 and Alone in the Dark 3 as free bonus materials! This great series starts a new wave of Atari games that will be available in the coming weeks! And on 10th of May as the last game from Atari, we'll release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. What's even cooler we're going to have a special, time-limited offer that will give you a 50% discount, so the game will cost you only $4.99!

As we're on the subject of The Witcher, we had more cool stuff about its upcoming sequel on GOG.com. Starting on May 10, everyone who pre-order The Witcher 2 on GOG.com will be able to pre-purchase the game and download 90% of the build, so they can play the game on release day! So if you haven't pre-ordered the game yet, you'd better do that before May 16! More details on The Witcher deals can be found here.

Pre-downloading such huge game like The Witcher 2 is some serious business, and you'd need some serious downloader to do that. That's where the GOG.com Spring Site Update comes in! Late April we'll introduce a brand new, improved and slick GOG Downloader which will allow you to download all your GOG games fast and easy. What else? Personal messaging will be now possible for all our users!

But that's not all! At the very end, spotlight was on your favourite French Monk, who had some news regarding new publishers coming to the site. Microsoft, Electronic Arts, LucasArts, Take2 and SquareEnix - one of those publishers is already signed, while two more from the list are almost on board! Which and when is coming? Well, you'll have to wait a bit for that :)

You can watch the video recap of the presentation here. Enjoy!
I told ya that the rest of Atari is coming in.:D
I want a cheap and unprotected tshirt.

Destro: Nope. It will be a normal desktop app written from scratch for maximum performance in mind :). It will take advantage of segmented crc-checking per file (so in case of download errors, it will re-download a few megs for the broken chunk, never an entire file) as well as multi-thread download (for the best download speeds :).

We will try to launch a forum-only betatest of the app a little bit earlier before the site update - I will keep you posted about this :)

Fantastic: The new downloader seems to be a really good app for me. The automatic error checking is a very good new feature - it happened with me that I downloaded the game with the downloader and I had to download a big part again, but thanks to this feature, this will never happen again.
Will GOG still support the downloading via web browser? I like downloading smaller games with web browser - and I think I can still download with it, but in the video, Trevor says "it only activates when you click specific download links on GOG.com". So can I download games with my browser after the new downloader will be released?
Probably. It's a bit pointless for the Zork collection.

Yes, the downloader will continue to be an optional download method - it won't block you from downloading files through the browser, although for very big games like TW2 we will obviously recommend using it (though never force it :).

As for the second part of your question: one of the beauties of the downloader is that it doesn't have to run in the background if you're not downloading anything. All you have to do is open it once, exit and forget about it. Then, whenever you click "add to downloader" link on the My Account, it will automatically launch the downloader and add the game to the download queue. You don't need to remember about launching the downloader earlier and you can exit the app once the downloads are done.
Long story short, we don't want this to be another client app that wastes system resources. It's purely optional and launches only when you need it.

Is there any particular reason for AitD not have a multi-game installer like Police Quest?
You guys never cease to amaze.

Thanks for your quick reply - it's good to know that I can use the downloader if I wish, but I'm not forced.

Smannesman: Nice GOG, "The purchased limit of connections has been reached".
Screw this, I'll just find out later.
We purchased 40,000 connections; we really didn't expect more than that to show up at once.

I don't blame you, 40 000 is a LOT.
I'm a little disappointed that you didn't actually reveal neither publisher nor games, but I'm psyched about all the info we DID get. I hope you drop some of those new Atari games quickly, because I still have three free games to claim! (See? This is why I asked for some extra time to choose! Woo!)

TheJoe: I want a cheap and unprotected tshirt.
Me too.
I think it would top the bestsellers list if they made it available :p
With 40,000 slots not being enough for the video feed, it would probably sell out very very quickly :p
Why does GOG use the american system of month/day? It's very unprofessional.
Probably because they set their prices in the American Dollars....
but yeah, only one country in the world puts month before date, and expects the rest of the world to understand it.....

!
They have an old Atari 2600 game called Outlaws. But I would think that to be more of a game in a classic Arari pack. I couldn't imagine paying $5.99 for one not-so-famous Atari 2600 Game.

Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

The head of PR & Marketing is an American, so when he makes the slides for a presentation he sometimes doesn't think about it and does them the way he has his whole life.

Yeah, I know. We hate him, too. >.>
Rofl. You poor guys. Commiserations.
