I think it may have been an IWD game but Im not sure.

As you go through a dungeon, you come to a room that has a group of knights in it and they will guard the room so your party can rest.

That's all I got, sorry :)

Well. there is indeed a section in Icewind Dale where you can't rest until you reach a room where there is one NPC and a couple of his comrades, which will make it safe for your party to sleep. I recall it was some kind of a castle in the later chapters. I don't recall it there was a dungeon just before it.

Then again, I think there was also a dungeon section too where you had to find a friendly NPC which allowed you to rest (inside the dungeon). But I don't think he was a human (knight), but some other type of creature. Could be he was also a shopkeeper inside the dungeon, and he was alone.

Maybe the fourth level of Dragon's Eye in IWD1? But those guys charge out and help you fight if you haven't already cleared the level. If you have cleared, they'll stay while you rest (but you don't really need them).

There's a priestess on the second level that will watch over you if you need to rest (and she will prevent random mobs from spawning).
