It's a great f2p indie 4X game (in the vein of Master of Orion) from Aussie indie developers Iron Helmet Games.

Essentially, the game plays like a much more streamlined MoO, but the catch is that the game is in REAL-TIME. Moving a ship takes about a day at the start of a game. You play with up to 12 players online.

The reason I like the game, and many others, is simply because it's a nice "office" game. With lots of work, it's a game i check maybe once or twice a day in between work, and see how it's going.

Its free to play, and you can join up to 2 free games, but the premium games have more features and more devoted players. To play or set up a premium/private game, you must have credits, which you can buy starting from $20 on Paypal, or simply come 1st, 2nd or 2rd in a regular game.

While it's not mind blowing, I like the simple concept of it, and the lack of time commitment to play it.

Definitely worth at least a look (plus if you have a gmail account, you have no need to register!)

Thanks for reminding me. I've been meaning to try this out since I first heard of it. Maybe we can set up a game sometime next week...

I'm not sure about the "lack of time commitment to play it".

Didn't you read the RPS diaries? Though they sounded fun, they certainly placed the game on my list of "games I will never ever try, ever".

It's a must-read.

Me too, but as I understood it should be really easy to understand and to play.

Ah, and not the 23,5 hours spent scheming and thinking about the game each day?
uuuuugh... I used to play this game, then you start too many games at once and it sucks your soul and all your free time. Technically you only need to log in once a day, but depending on the distance from your stars, enemies can attack you in the span of a few hours sometimes so vigilance is required.

Protip, focus economy early on, more moola = faster building and army growing later.

I've been playing irongames' new game, which is in beta, Blight of the Immortals. Very similar concept, but medieval times with fantasy races. You hold cities that can make armies and you fight off the incoming zombie blight which mindlessly expands. Pretty fun, its more cooperative than head to head for players.
