JudasIscariot: Oh boy, it's this topic again :/

Keep it civil, guys. Thanks.

hedwards: Wouldn't it be more efficient to just ban the topic, it's not like anybody's changed their mind since the KS announcement, nor is it likely that anybody will change their minds.

Let's all agree that the point of the videos is to stick it to men, without bothering to mention anything that might make women look bad.
Looks at the comments though, people disagreeing, its all civil (relatively speaking). Of course things can change in a heartbeat. I have been pleased with the responses so far. I know that my views have also changed over time, although not significantly.

I always thought the point of the video was to attack game developers, not men. Anita's view seems to me to be that the developers of video games portray women poorly. I don't think all the developers are women. Therefore I would have thought (whether you agree that it is a problem or not) Anita's view would be that women are as much to blame for it as men.

JudasIscariot: If I ban it/lock it, then I get to hear cries of "Censorship!!!" in my PM box.

While I do find this topic disheartening mainly for the abuse it tends to draw, I won't shut it down unless people don't behave.
I have my PM ready to go.

It involves me, as an Australian, relying on the American Constitution to demand a European company not control my freedom of speech in a private internet forum.

It makes no legal sense but is filled with self righteous indignation.

This is a nice Total Biscuit talk. It's more a response to a review of Dragon's Crown, but it touches on similar things that the tropes vs. women vids talk about.

I listened to the first half of this but fell asleep. I'll need to listen to the rest later. I thought his views were interesting as well.
She doesn't record her own gameplay, she copies it from dozens of other youtube videos, so I don't really know why she needed that kind of money.

Anyway, it will be my only post in this thread, because the typical mayhem is about to happen as usual ;p

btw. it's good someone here mentioned adventure games. If you think about it, there are much more adventure games starring female protagonists ratio than in any other genre type.

btw2. I liked her idea of a game at the end, I would definitely play that :P

Gigantic hoop earrings. Crucial for combating misogyny.

Keep in mind she only asked for $6,000.

I could go on a rant about people flinging money at already fully funded kickstarters like monkeys flinging feces (particularly with under funded kickstarters out there just hoping for the chance to be able to scrape by their funding goals) but that's a little OT for here, maybe I'll chime in on the failed kickstarter thread...

I agree. I can't believe nobody has made a game with a story like that... Maybe someone has?

Seems like it would be a good action/rpg/rts. Double fine should do a kickstarter...

In that case maybe this guy should write plots for video games...

gamefreak1972: edit: chatting online with an online friend about this. Apparently before the comments got disabled in the first one, she was getting regular death and gang rape threats. Let me retract my above statement: I am VERY glad comments are disabled!
As people have pointed out, Anita is a big girl. But she owes it to her fans to deliver a rape-threat-free experience.

heh heh, I wouldn't want to speak for her, but I suspect she might not consider that to be the answer :)

I watched that video yesterday, TB tries to be balanced and I do agree that a critic has a right and duty to give an honest opinion, my agreement ends there and at the end I really lost respect for TB.

Why?

Because I'm sick of this BS about games having to grow up, because I know where it's lead to. It's led to the brown realistic shooter games that just bore the hell out of me. It's lead to the dark fantasy craze where I can't identify or even like any of the characters. I like colorful games, I like games that engage my full reptile brain when I'm in the mood for it, and I don't need to feel ashamed for that.

And that's why I can't stand video game feminism. They try to shame me from what I love, in the privacy of my home. Their solution is shame, they don't want more games with good female heroes, they just want people that like what they don't like to feel ashamed. They don't support making more feminist games, hell they were full on assault on the Tomb Raider reboot that made Laura Croft a full character instead of a sex object.

Artists have a right to make their art how they want and for who they want, The feminists Shame campaign will not make them stop. Sex will continue to sell and it will be exploited, nothing will stop it. Videogame feminism isn't helping anyone, just running a crummy shame campaign.
Nicely wrapped theme.

I like that she touched Men in Distress "trope". I do agree that it's extremely rare and the highly uneven ratio is what is strking. This message was missing in previous two episode, I'm glad to see it was intended to point it later.

I understand that she used Mario as the connection between all three episodes but it does look like she has unhealthy obsession with the series. I hope the mediocre series is not going to be be the subject in upcoming parts.

I dig a lot what Naughty Dog did with The Last of Us *. That's also why I like ND's games. Women get into jeopardy and might need a help but they just don't sit and wait for The Male to arrive. That's what Anita's point was after all.

* It would be fabulous to play the game of similar nature including prominent mother-daughter relationship.

On the video itself: Watched ten minutes of it, she basically regurgitated the same sexist bullshit from the first two videos.

Don't feed the troll people. Just let her get on with it and let the rest of us - male and female alike - enjoy playing games.
