I was hoping for more discussion about games that did it well. At least Secret of Monkey Island, Beyond Good and Evil and Braid were mentioned, but I was hoping for more of a discussion on what's good about the twist on the trope in those games. It would be nice if someone could produce a decent video on that...

Secret of Monkey Island was definitely a game that, as a child, had an influence on my preconception of the role of male heroes and female damsels in video games.

She has a really, really annoying voice. On top of all the questionable assertions she makes. These things weren't a problem when nobody was paying attention to the plot.

I mean, people actually pay attention to the plot of the various Mario games? Seriously?

I payed attention to the plot of Paper Mario Thousand Year Door and to me its the best story using the Damsals in Distress plot, because they actually have a logiacal and kind of diabolical reason for kidnapping Princess Peach.

I am about to hop on a plane and cross the Atlantic back to Poland in 10 minutes. I trust you can all be civil in my absence.

While it was rotten to see the way people were harassing her in the comments, it's also pretty cowardly to disable them. I mean, c'mon, she's a big girl (or, that's the message she was advocating), so why can't she take some criticism? She could even use it to talk about "male-oriented culture", or whatever. Throwing your opinion into the wind instead of opening and holding avenues of possible discussion is counter-productive.

Also, while I like the presentation and was entertained by this series, the only thing I've come away with is that women should always have lead or strong roles in all and every medium, and should never be kidnapped, hurt, killed, or otherwise mistreated without eventually getting revenge and showing off how strong and independent she is. I agree that there should be a lot more fleshed-out women characters in video games, but games that have already been made that have princesses and such for goals aren't evil, and some games are just games and throw together a lazy story to set up purpose. Jesus Christ, if every 8-bit throwback game had either a kidnapped man as replacement or a strong, independent woman, it'd seem just as tired as the current trope. Get over it.

That video had the "hysterical shrieking banshee" trope ...
Another good video.

That doesn't make their use of sexist tropes any less problematic; if anything, the opposite.

No.
