This is just a plea, a message in a bottle as it were, to anyone, be they on the GOG admin or a fellow Gogger. :-)

Trolls! Threads being sabotaged and taken over by trolls (often with an agenda). What can be done? It really is a growing problem here on GOG. It's a shame. So, what can be done about it?

most derailments are done in good fun or because the original thread was either trollbait
click bait or just a pointless argument

most threads on here invariably get derailed
What can be done about it?
An Ignore function would have been a very good start. Trolls live for attention. If they are ignored they wither away.

why do you always have to bring logic and reason to a conversation ? ;p
Downvote to oblivion, hell troll them back or simply ignore them. Usually the first and third work the best, the second one IS amusing from time to time though.
You could always just pay the toll so they'll let you cross their bridge. Sometimes it's less effort than going around them or attempting to do battle when you're low on potions.

i say torches and pitchforks.
We could all get together and decide which GOG employee we like the least. Then we could insist that the poor bastard read through miles of our repetitive and self-important serious discussions. Of course, he'd be obligated to decide and to indicate which of our posts have actual merit, and to remove those found lacking*.

*Except for this one.

Or the other way around, then the thread wouldn't look like it derailed .

Nothing. In theory ignoring should work perfectly, in practice it is often very hard to ignore. On some forums it is partially possible to "fight" with trolls by defining rules and using warnings and bans. Here I don't see such possibility - it would require clear rules and lot of moderators, but it looks like GOG is not interested in giving additional permissions for persons not hired by them.

From the other side it is somehow consistent with general policy of GOG. They sell games without DRM. We can interpret this as a will to minimize control over their customers. We can interpret this also as a faith in people. This can cause abuses, but it looks like fair usage happens much more often than abuses. Perhaps the same policy they applies here - on forums. Minimal control and faith in forum users. Some of those users abuses this freedom, but much more users plays fair.
We could always switch to silver swords.
Trolls? After killing them you have to burn their bodies, or they just come back.
