I thought I would take advantage of the sale to try out GamersGate. As a first test I bought Avencast and started downloading it. However my BitDefender flags a trojan (Gen:Trojan.heur.YGZ@XYaTLk) inside the download manager, not inside the game but in the actual download manager from GG. Anyone else come across this?

Likely a false positive, though wouldn't actually know as I don't use the service (yet).
False positive. GamersGate would not do this.
I kind of guessed it was a false positive, I was kind of wondering if it could have been some DRM residue...
Use another virus scanner on it, such as a free online one if you'd rather, to be safe. But yes, Gamersgate are not at all likely to be sending you viruses.
False alarm.
Looks like the detection was based on heuristics rather than a signature match to a known virus. AV companies really need to lay off the heuristics until they find a way to stop them from generating so many false positives.
I've never gotten that, I'm using Microsoft Defender.

Although Defender really seemed to be in battle with the Survivor expansion that I pulled down for Shadowgrounds yesterday.

Last i checked, Windows Defender wasn't an antivirus.

Sorry, meant Security Essentials

MsMPEng.exe was chewing up the most RAM and CPU while Survivor was trying to initalize. Took it a half hour for the installation screen to initialize from the point where the download had actually completed.
If you really want to be sure, upload it to these 2 sites:

Let us know what you find. I'm sure it's a false positive tho.
Seems to be a known issue : from GG's FAQs

BitDefender 2009 stopped the installation due to a virus in the launch file.

Turn off real time protection in BitDefender.

NOTE: Some antivirus react improperly. It will be crucial for our business to supply any kind of malware, but still defenders suspect file names like Generator as viruses.

Can there be a virus in the Download?

No, it is not, but some antivirus react improperly. It will be crucial for our business to supply any kind of malware, but still defenders suspect file names like Generator as viruses.

NOTE: For BitDefender you may turn off real time protection.

Well it is in their interest that people constantly feel at risk...

That's in their FAQ? That's kind of scary to say the least.

I suspect the Swedish version of the FAQ should be less scary ;-)
