I'm interested in buying the game Trine. The game is available on Steam, but also on GamesPlanet.
As I usually (except on GOG) don't buy digital content, I have two questions:
- what is your opinion about GamesPlanet (DRM, authentification, etc...) ?
- the boxed version (the one I would like to buy): is it associated to Steam or GamesPlanet? Will I need an account on some internet platform to launch the game?

StingingVelvet: It is sad, but is it the faualt of Steam/SecuROM/Cops/Stores, or is it the fault of pirates, drunk drivers, shoplifters and other criminals that force these checks upon us? I would say the latter.

To be a little more precise, I would say that there are companies which want to profile everyone and/or want an absolute control on what they sell, piracy or not.
Piracy incrising is just an opportunity for them to applicate more and more of their controling technology, and all that with their customers' agreement.

Well I can understand that... at the same time though, the control they want over how their games are used is certainly something that makes sense in the current digital climate.
It's one of those things where technology cannoy be undiscovered... we have started the digital age, the download age, and media is a free-for-all with no DRM at all. We can't go back to the age of CD Keys and booklet questions, we are past that now.

StingingVelvet: I like SecuROM in a weird way too, because it is easy to patch out unofficially (can I say that here?). Steam you are stuck with forever.

Yeah we talk about cracks and pirating all the time here..no one's stepped in yet. As long as we're not condoning the latter, posting links, etc. I think we're good.
Agreed, same feelings on SecuROM/Steam.

ilves: I read an article somewhere that the developers actually didn't want to put DRM on this game, but they couldn't get a publisher without it. Played the demo of this a week or two back, pretty sweet. awesome atmosphere

You should find it for us~

The demo is good. But the PS3 version is actually cheaper. You might be best off waiting until the price drops a little. Which I assume it may when the PS3 version is released. I'd recommend you look for a boxed copy too. It may still have DRM, I don't know. But they're usually cheaper than digital distribution copies.
I believe the boxed copy is on sale for £14.99 at gameplay.co.uk. It was last I checked.
There's no third party stuff (Steam, et.c.) used on the boxed copy.

Trine is awesome, I picked it up on GameStreamer.com . Trying to test out something on steam after being a loyal Steamer for years.
GamesPlanet just doesn't do anything for me.
