So, Steam juste released "Trine 2 : Complete Story", a complete edition of Trine 2 with the DLC Goblin Meance and a new DLC included.

All the while, Trine 2's official FAQ keeps stating since a year and a half: "All current versions are Steamworks-enabled, meaning that you will have to use Steam to play the game (a DRM free version will be available in 2012)."

Trine 2 for Windows, DRM free, lost in the vortex of time forever?

GOG to the rescue!

*waits patiently*
Vote for it on the wishlist:

This is why I don't buy games based on promises.

Space Pirates and Zombies puled the same shit, but ended up going DRM-free as it let them get into a Humble Bundle. No idea if the direct from them version was ever changed to DRM-free.
I bought a Humble Store gift for the Collector's Edition. Then I downloaded the game elsewhere.

A new DLC? I wonder if that's the previously Wii U exclusive Dwarven Caverns content.

Yes

"Trine 2: Complete Story fully integrates the Goblin Menace expansion campaign and the all-new unlockable Dwarven Caverns level into one mighty fairytale. All owners of Trine 2: Goblin Menace are automatically upgraded to the Complete Story edition."

Ok now I really want to see it here. I really enjoyed playing this with the wiimote but I'll gladly double dip for a complete PC edition.

Not a lot of people have voted for it, that's too bad...
Still, maybe it's taking so long because Trine 2 is playable online: GOG seems to have a problem with multiplayer games. Do you guys know if GOG has its own servers? Games like Two Worlds 2 can rely on the publisher's servers, but for an indie title like Trine, is there only the Steam servers?

Can I just add - I like the forum title, it seem like it is complaining that there is no DRM on Trine 2 :)

What a shame! I'll happily sit and play my copy. :P

Here's the latest statement from Frozenbyte:

http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5913&sid=59c960fd6e556ecc05bca90e6a791c94&start=25
"We are currently preparing for a big patch for base game and Goblin Menace (internally known as "Megapatch"). I haven't discussed this with powers that be, but it would make sense to release DRM free version pretty soon after that, since we probably won't be patching much after that."

If this "complete edition" is what they had in mind, then chances are, the DRM free version for all who bought Trine 2 directly from the developers will follow pretty soon.
They have been promising a DRM Free version for over a year now. They even went backwards with the OS X and Linux versions by making newer updates for them require Steam also.

The non steam Linux and OS X versions have working multiplayer with each other. So there was something already in place they could fall back on.
Goody...more waiting for that DRM-Free version of the game that may or may not get released. =/

Arma 2 has DRMed multiplayer, unless I am mistaken.

Both GOG and Humble Bundle don't really care about DRM when it comes to multiplayer.

Does Trine 2 still have local play? If so I don't really see it being a huge issue.
