I really liked the spanish movie Los Cronocrímenes or Timecrimes in english. It was about a dude who sees an assault on a woman in the woods from his garden and decides to investigate leading him to a discovery that meteorological outpost nearby actually hides a secret time machine. The "twist" with the assault isn't the main thing about the movie, the audience can figure it out fairly quickly and the movie answers the mystery like halfway through the movie so the really good thing about it actually is that the story concludes with the idea of every event being predestined to happen, even the existence of timemachine and manipulation with it, and therefore you can't change anything because the timemachine itself and travelling back through time and meeting your fomer self is actually unchangable part of the constant flow of time.

Also i liked 12 Monkeys which is basically the same thing in the end.

And someone mentioned Triangle here. The movie wasn't all that awesome, it was fun to watch but not really groundshaking experience, but what i really did like about the movie was the short scene where the woman discovers a place with dozens of corpses of herself (i think) because her timeloop always ended in the same place, a very surreal moment.
Well, really good time traveling story is the Switch-Saga, cause it combinds TimeTravelling with alternativ ways, which creates a very large web of storys and gives a deep insight into chars!

Oh, and another great timeTravellingStory is JustinTime.
I´ve read this some years ago and got, as far as I know, no unlogical twists.
Oh, and a real classic of comics: Valeraian and Veronique!
But V&V is proberbly a bit to over-the-top-confusion... ;)

Gaunathor: I've got huge problems with time travel stories. Most often, I can't stand them at all, because they make no sense. However, there are a few exceptions. The biggest one for me is "The Last Day of Creation" by Wolfgang Jeschke. It's about an attempt of the USA to send troops back in time to steal oil from the Arabians. The RTS Original War is loosely based on this story. Unlike the book, however, the game isn't that well known, and severely underrated. Which is a pity, because it is a quite unique RTS. So, I decided to give away five copies of it.

What do you have to do to win? Simply tell me what you think is a good time traveling story (book, movie, game, whatever), and why you think so.

Entries with the most funniest and/or logical answers will make it into the final round. The five victors will then by determined via random.org.

The giveaway will end Monday, August 5th, at 10pm GMT.
The Time Machine by H.G Wells. So much better than the movie.

The book has freaking Giant Crabs for one thing.

Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys is amazing not only because of his great imagery (i.e. Brazil) but also because of the unique psychological focus of the film emphasizing the unwinding (or not?) of the central character. Also, 12 Monkeys is especially interesting as a companion piece (and remake) to La Jetee, previously mentioned by klaatu as consisting of still frames.

Another under-rated time travel film is The Butterfly Effect; which is enjoyable because it marches viewers through a wide variety of "what if" alternative futures with an increasingly desperate character anchored by a sentimental romance. Parts of it feel forced but it's enjoyable.

How has Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure not been mentioned yet? It's low brow 80s cheese but fun popcorn fluff.

I've already travelled forward in time and seen the winner, then come back to report on it. So congratulations [REDACTED BY TEMPORAL AUTHORITY BUREAU].
I'm actually pleased with most of the time travel elements in Doctor Who. By avoiding plots which are too complicated and putting many explanations of time elements to things only a Timelord could understand, I've found it doesn't offend my sensibilities too much. I especially liked the newer series concept of "fixed points in time" that one cannot go back and change.

www.1939.com.pl (yes this is name of the book)

It is good because it is about time traveling Polish army fighting Nazi Germany.

I always find it amusing hearing the fabrications people's minds create to cope with the mandatory mind wipe for crimes against the "TEMPORAL AUTHORITY BUREAU" :)).

Not in because I already have Original War, but I have to spread the word of 'Universal War One', it's time stuff related, it's a comic book, I read it a long time ago .... and I can't remember much of it aside from being really good.

Is forgetfullness a side effect of time travel ?
