The thing people seem to be forgetting here is that the touchscreen is in no way an adequate replacement for the mouse.
I've no idea how ScummVM on android does it, but a large part of most of the LucasArts games was being able to move the mouse around the screen and having what the item is show in the statusline.
The problem with other games, especially those that used rightclick (to change from look-at to use or whatever) would have to be handled somehow. having an onscreen button could work, but people seem to find it cumbersome.
As a wannabe adventure game developer (and thus slightly off-topic here), I've been pondering hard on this, and can't really think of a good solution. I haven't played Gemini Rue or the Shivah or any of the newer Wadjet Eye Games on the android yet either, but the only way I can think of to design adventure games for the android is:
- Greatly simplify everything to one click does all (I really don't want to do that...one of my major gripes with Broken Age was the lack of a LOOK interaction).
- Verbcoin (like in Curse of Monkey Island and Full Throttle), which I really hate (it blocks the screen, you have to press down for a while, etc.)
- Permanent onscreen verblist (like in the LucasArts games before Curse/Full Throttle, except for Sam & Max), which I don't mind at all on the PC, but again, would really take up valuable real estate on your android device.
If someone could think of a solution, I bet they'd revolutionise adventure gaming on tablets/phones :D.
As something somewhat back on topic: NOBODY GET THE SIMON THE SORCERER GAMES FOR THE TABLET. THE PORTS ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, AND BUTCHER AN INCREDIBLE GAME!
