I happen to enjoy them. But i didnt really grow up with Transformers until Beast Wars happened and im really just happy they brought it back for a new generation. I mean shit, id rather have the movies now then nothing at all and the Transformers name lost in limbo like a lot of other great cartoons and shows have been, ThunderCats anyone? Nothing will replace the old stuff, and even in my eyes the Transformers movies have nothing on Beast Wars, but fuck its better then nothing. My wife and I just sat down a few days ago with my 4 year old daughter and watched both of them and my daughter really enjoyed both movies, thats what matters, the name moving on for a new generation to enjoy and come to know, which will trigger interest in the old stuff.

Virama: I lol'd.

By the way it's "I invoke the power of Greystone!"
avatar
Lobsang1979: Is it not: "By the power of Greyskull, I have the power!"?

I'm pretty sure I remember being five years old and thinking that it was strange to repeat the word 'power' twice. Kind of like if you were getting married and the official announced, "By the power invested in me, I have the power!".

Actually, come to think of it, I would have loved that at my own wedding.
Fuck. I stand corrected. Still, my excuse is that they didn't have subtitles back in the day. But you're right, of course.

there is a Thundercats reboot coming: it's animated and I think it's a TV series.

it's probably not going to be quite as bad as the He-man reboot from a few years back, but given the source material that one really wasn't all that bad. so this Thundercats one should be quite watchable at the least.

Galimatias: BTW why do people go to movies like that and expect a spiritual journey with a satisfying katharsis in the end? It's like with Sucker Punch, you go to the cinemy, the lights go dark and in this very moment your brain should be turned off and just enjoy the eyeporn on the screen.

It's the same with all of the Bay movies too, imho ofc.

michaelleung: I think it's more of the "they ruined my childhood" than "Michael Bay is a dick filmmaker".

Come to think of it, Michael Bay is a dick filmmaker but that's not the point I'm trying to make here.
I have no childhood love for Transformers. I was always a Star Wars kid, and I rejected practically every other sci-fi movie/TV show.

And I also liked Bad Boyz II.
Whose idea was it to have "ghetto" robots? WTF? This will reach the "blacks?" Hollywood, for all of its talk of fighting for civil rights, is the worst perpetrator of stereotypes. Ask any homophobe what a gay looks/acts like and he will likely describe what he sees in movies.

I go to the movies to be entertained and to have fun. Turning off my brain just to prevent me from feeling any pain because of how f-in' stupid the whole thing is: not my idea of fun.

I believe those were recognized as a mistake. I don't know if we've ever gotten the real reason they were included in the first place.

But I like to imagine it's because Hasbro wanted the twins to be a particular set of toys. And Bay created the most hate-able character possible as a revolt.

I can't possibly see how this could have been a marketing ploy to get the "urban market" (as elaborated in Plinkett's review of Revenge of the Sith) to see Revenge of the Fallen, because those two Autobots are so wholly over the top that they're essentially racist. As was mentioned in the Bad Movie Beatdown review someone mentioned earlier, it's like they're essentially doing the whole blackface routine here.

Speaking of bad movies and condescending directors, it reminds me of how liberally Lucas used racial stereotypes in the Prequel Trilogy.

But... the show was in English... and your profile says you're Australian.... I'm confused.

I didn't realize that George Lucas produced that crap.

OK, so I wasn't the only one puzzled by that. But then again, I know some folks from New Zealand that can't speak English, despite having grown up a presumably English speaking country.

Then there's the fact that Virama is deaf, hence the title "I can't hear you". Though I assume that's a more recent disability.

Ah, I tend to forget about that sort of thing online, especially since one doesn't have anyway of knowing.

I liked watching both transformers movies, specially the second one. It was stupid, yes, but that 's what made it good. Stupid good fun. It's like playing Postal 1 with god mode enabled. Got no love or interest on the original cartoons, dont think they were anything special.

A Masters in Chemical Engineering and the highest honors in his class. He gets more money by parading around in tights and acting dumb.

This is the truth of the world.
