hedwards: Not really, in most places where one is going to play this game it's either illegal or subject to civil suit if you're caught doing it. It doesn't matter if Valve goes out of business or otherwise takes your games.
You really think anyone is going to care if you download abandonware 20 years from now when the publisher is dead? No. DRM on PC is irrelevant.
hedwards: If they don't give a shit that's a pretty clear indication that they don't understand the situation. I doubt very much that in the case that Valve does go bankrupt that they'd still not care about the risk.
I wouldn't say that. Whether you and I agree or not a lot of people don't care about game preservation. They don't think Valve will be gone anytime soon and they don't worry about playing these games 20 years from now. Or maybe they just don't care that much about games and use them as a casual diversion, which is healthy.
Or like me they know DRM is irrelevant on PC and don't care about it, outside constant connection requirements.
