somebodyspecial: Dang, not feeling so bad about waiting now. After reading the reviews I was pondering opening my wallet pre-gog getting it. Lets face it they are pretty glowing all around.
***puts wallet back***
I think I can wait until thanksgiving and move along now...ROFL. It should be pretty patched up by then (hopefully on gog then too) and I won't have any reason to RAGE over the patches. ;) Is that steam or something autopatching you, or did you do it yourself but had an option MonstaMunch?
It's an autopatch thing, I've had it installed, but haven't loaded the game since I patched it. I'm not sure whether or not I'm going to wait until they fix this or just back up the saves and hop noting bad happens.

It was Steam. I was playing, then Protoss told me about the patch, and warned me that people were losing items from their shared stash when they updated. So I put all my important stuff into my other stash (left one unimportant item in shared just to see), and restarted with the update. Much to my delight, the "test item" was still in my stash, though a few minutes later I realized some areas I'd unlocked were unavailable, and I was about 4 quests back from where I previously was. It's odd because it still remembered my last waypoint, and let me teleport to it, even though it was on a map that it said I hadn't been to yet (the Forgotten Halls, Act III). Like I said, the only good thing was that I kept my xp and items, that's something I guess.

I think they just backed the patch out. When I try to start TL2 the game can't figure out what version I'm using.

For anybody affected, try this: http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=35698

Fudge. Should have known better than to enable autopatching on Steam...

Gonna load it up now. I hope nothing bad happens *fingers crossed*

Well now I'm worried. I've been playing since I wrote the post about losing my progress. If I stop and restart now, will I lose it again for a second time? I seriously don't think I can deal with that.

The only backup copy is the one on your computer, so at least in theory if you back that up, you should be able to restore it to the condition before you attempted to fix it.

It might depend upon whether or not it's a PWE copy or a Steam copy, but I'd probably ask in the forum there as I'm sure you're not the only one that's continued playing.

But, it's your game save, not mine.
Uh how do I disable autopatching?

Easiest way is disconnect from the internet. Select stop download while playing after it's given up trying. You can then reconnect to the internet then, but be sure to close the program immediately after you finish playing. But, from the looks of it, they've backed the patch out, so it shouldn't try to patch to the broken copy if it hasn't already.

You might not be able to play online though without the patched version.
But Steam has already autodownloaded it for me :(

Ah, there's a patch incoming to fix that, but until then I don't think you can launch the game. Or at least I can't. I would assume that the Steam version is similar.
The patch apparently just made me lose all the map data and also the monsters reappeared. Got a few levels and fancy loot by killing them again, so I didn't really mind :)

That's basically what happened to me, except there's another issue too. One of the monsters (Cacklespit)I previously killed as part of a quest (defeat Cacklespit) is the only one that won't reappear, so now I can't redo the quest. It was only a side quest so not really important, but still kind of annoying.

Edit: Wow, I hadn't realized it was ALL map data throughout the entire game. WTF. I'm about to ragequit.

It is the end of the world. I just hit level 50, I'm right near the end of the game, i wanted to be able to go back and see what I'd missed, and do all that stuff. I took friday off work, currently logged just under 40 hours, and it's all wasted because they put out a stupid fucking patch without testing it. It's not even possible that they could have identified new issues, written fixes for them, and fully tested to see if they were fucking anything up in the few days since it's release. They just did it anyway, without caring. Fucking stupid piece of shit assholes.

Edit, they just put a new patch out. Again, it's causing new problems, and again, it's not physically possible that they could have identified the issues and fully tested their fix since the last patch. It just isn't possible. I don't remember the last time I raged this hard. Seriously. The game was perfect, all they needed to do was leave it the fuck alone long enough to fully test whatever changes they wanted to make. This isn't a beta test. I put 40 hours into this in the past 3 days. I WANT MY 3 DAYS BACK YOU WANKERS.

The map reset is intended functionality, for people who want to grind or for multiplayer or whatever. Apparently a patch will trigger the reset, but they will also reset by themselves after a time. The loot issues people were having obviously was a bug, thankfully the patch to fix the patch was out by the time I tried it this morning.
