Has Runic Games mentioned anything about a boxed version of the game outside of Germany and Russia?

Yes, but only unofficially, it won't be available for awhile. The boxed copy for the original came out a few months after the DD release as well.
So where have most of you guys have ended up pre ordering from?

Steam. I'll buy it again off of Runic directly when i have some extra cash to burn. Brother gifted me some Steam wallet shit and just used the rest on TL2.

Adzeth: I think I read an interview (but can't find it now) in which the Torchlight 2 guy said that when he said that ideally Torchlight 2 comes a month after Diablo 3, he meant that if it had been done back then, they would have waited at least for a month to pass before releasing.

Elenarie: Maybe that was it, no idea now tbh, it was a long time ago.
Yeah, back before D3 came out Runic wanted to ideally release TL2 a month after D3. Later they decided to instead of releasing what they had to add more to the game and polish it all up nice and shiny. It's been a hella long wait for TL2, but i think in the end it'll be a better game because of it. Id rather they finish the product and make sure its good to go then play a half baked game. Something i wish dev's now a days would do.

Steam, it let me pre load it so I get to start playing when everyone else does instead of waiting for my crappy third world internets to catch up.

Since there will be no DRM free launch day release, if I have to put up with DRM, it will be Runic's. I cannot pre-order from them, but I will buy on launch day from them, hopefully the download will not take forever.
TL2 comes with an Activation, apart from TL1 which hadn't any DRM - apart from the STEAM-Version - Even the Box-Version in Germany has DRM: So no TL2 for me :-(
Hopefully in a not so far future TL2 will be released on GoG.Com ...
The Torchlight creators wants gamers to make a Diablo 2 mod for Torchlight 2

Got mine on steam.
So is Torchlight 2 launching here on GOG? Is the "Buy Torchlight 2 and get Torchlight along with it for free!" deal exclusive to Steam?

It's the same on GamersGate, only thing it that T2 needs Steam while the free T1 is Securom.

I got it from there just for the extra blue coins.

So the games use DRM? I take it that I won't be seeing the mentioned deal here on GOG then, hm?

TL2 does use DRM, although there are two versions being sold. The first is the Steam version, which naturally uses Steam for the DRM. Most of the other major digital download sites (e.g. Gamersgate) are also selling this version, in that all they're actually selling are Steam keys. The other version is being sold through Runic's distributor, Perfect World, and likely through Runic's own site at some point. This version doesn't use any of the standard DRM schemes, but a one-time online activation at installation that Runic made themselves (Runic has also stated that no drivers or anything similar are installed as part of this system). Basically it's the same system that was used with Torchlight 1; there are a limited number of activations, but if Runic behaves like they did with Torchlight 1 these will be periodically reset.

As for TL2 showing up on GOG, it may at some point (just as TL1 did), but probably not in the near future.
The soundtrack is now available on the game's site, for free.

Man there are so many reasons to support Runic. They are just a great company. I hope Torchlight 2 does well and converts people from Diablo 3.
