Thanks for that. According to that they possibly could make a last minute summer release if they pushed themselves, but October sounds more likely at this point.

Well, we still have September, and Summer officially ends Sept. 23rd or some such nonsense, so a little over a month. Will have to wait and see what happens.
I'm guessing that this is a case of being to chicken and trying to dodge major competing releases.

first it was trying to stay out of the gap between SWTOR and Diablo 3 (cause that was when Blizzact was gonna be ramping up D3's marketing, then it was finding the soft spot just after people started getting disillusioned about D3, but then they got negative responses durring TL2's beta and missed their window while working on things, now they are stuck waiting for GW2 to ship so that they aren't getting mashed up against that behemoth.

yeah, all of that are some pretty big hitters, but Runic really needs to grow some balls and trust in their product, Torchlight 2 is also a major hitter (providing they actually release it while people remember and care) and all of those products they are worrying about are MMOs, not co-op dungeon crawlers.

TL2 will be just fine, release the damned thing already.
Are they gonna release it when Borderlands 2 releases or after? Don't see much sense releasing it near BL2's launch date.
exactly my point with "just release the damned thing already."

Torchlight 2 probably would have steamrolled through most of the PC gaming market if they had released it in the post Christmas lul, but now the impact of it is ever diminishing as it gets pushed back farther and farther causing more and more people to become disinterested in it (or at the least lose hype in it).
I'm too much of an addict for these types of games, even if they suck. Played and beat Silverfall and expansion along with Loki while waiting for D3 to come out. . .and I'm already bored with D3's un-hardcore'ness. Beat Torchlight, though it was a grind at the end since I was bored with the repetitive levels, but gameplay was rock solid so I will probably give T2 a try, especially since it's only $20 bucks. I still find Titan Quest to be the best over the past 6 years. Though D3 was fun, didn't put nearly as much time into that as I did Titan Quest.
I still fire TL1 up from time to time and only run the scroll missions, it's far more entertaining than the actual quest progression.

mistermumbles: I'm still curious as to when they'll release the game. Seems like the beta's been going on for a good while now. Perhaps September? Their news updates are so few and far between it's usually hard to gauge how much progress has been made.

I do hope it'll get a GOG release eventually (within the year at least).
They post weekly progress and itemized task lists on their forums. Search for the "Not a Blog" threads, they should be at the top, though.

The "Not A Blog Redux" topics' first posts are kind of like secret news updates. Dunno if it helps with figuring out when it's coming out.
Azdeth, you pulled a ninja when I was not ready:)

And we now have word on when they will be ANNOUNCING the release date. Yes, they have announced an announcement, which must be something they learned while at Blizzard.

A real long running saga. Hope they put the extra time they've had into making it a really really awesome game...

That's more transparency than you'll ever get out of mainstream development, only indies and Kickstarter projects give that much detail.

"The official Release Date for Torchlight II is Thursday, September 20th, 2012."

Nice. I wonder if people who pre ordered it will be able to download it before hand so we can get started playing as soon as it's released, like many other games are doing. That would be awesome.
1 day before Borderland 2 releases? Ugh y?
it's thursday, September 20th, you say... interesting :]
