From what I understand, it means steam players are required to login with a runic account.

zavlin: Im more confused now. Is this runic thing a closed server? Or just a way of verifying sold copies?
Runic Account for MP will work similar to Diablo 2 Battle.net, I understand there's no open server but there is LAN mode.

WHaaaaat, if true that is FANTASTIC news. I had heard there wasnt going to be a closed server.... if they store your save files on their server.... thats great!!!!!!

From their FAQ there is no difference between multi player and single player toons, it'll work like Titan Quest, characters are saved locally, there may be some anti-cheat built into the Runic servers but it sounds like you'll need to trust those you play with.

AFAICT that's not really a sign up page, the keys are going out randomly to people. Or at least that's what the first post seems to indicate.

Right, it explains that sign up is basically registering on the forums. Sorry, I should have clarified.

The URL for that was rather unfortunate, you need to be signed up for the newsletter. Tons of people seem to think that begzoring for keys in that thread will get you a key.

I think the best chance for most people is to win a key from a contest. That is if you don't already get one in the mail.

Unfortunately, no. It appears you have to be invited and there are a limited number of invites that are going to be sent out. AFAICT if you haven't already been invited at this point you're not going to be invited.

Which sucks and I really hope I'm wrong about it, but that's what it looks like from the post.

EDIT: I take that back slightly, it appears that it's essentially tomorrow that they go out.
