a-haa, is anyone trying a vanquishier dual-weild build, to make her work either meele and ranged? It's so cool! Shooting them from distance and when someone gets close... SMASH him over head with a huge axe. Oh, and the fact that dagger skills derive damage from whatever weapon you're using (said axe in my case) seems just so weird :D ... And cool. Therefore, I don't care. Therefore, I don't know why did I mention that.
Hmm, it's been pretty long time since game got me so excited over a character build... Last one was second Diablo - even Titan Quest wasn't nearly as awesome

michaelleung: For some unexplained reason, I started a new character in Normal (last time I created one in Easy) and Normal felt a lot easier than Easy was.

If you have any ARPG experience, play in Hard. Normal is too easy.

I'll do that with the Vanquisher. Now I have a Destroyer in Easy, and an Alchemist in Normal. What's hardcore mode like? Anyone know?

When you die your character is deleted, like in the more classis roguelikes.
Needs a very different mindset to play, really.

Hardcore is a toggle, and when set, if you die in the game, the character is erased. Same as hardcore in Diablo, I think. "Roguelike" mode, so to speak.

Yup, that's a lot of fun when you have a good amount of knock-back applied to both gun and melee weapon (I'm currently using a mace as my melee weapon of choice).
Hardcore is a lot of fun, really makes every choice matter. Fallout 3 hardcore style on hard makes for a great game... It could take you an hour to move from location to location planning every move and step.
Top Downs don't get me into it as much as if i play HC rules in first person games but it still changes your entire play style and skill set.
I started with a Destroyer on Normal and after an hour or so restarted it in Very Hard. The game's much more fun now!
I'm still undecided about this. Among people who have played it, about half are calling it the true successor to Diablo 1 (which I really liked) and half are calling it the true successor to Fate (which I didn't like very much at all).
I'm pretty sick of this genre in general, though. It seems that nobody ever manages to create a truly enjoyable example of it. I can only name two of this sort of game that I've ever really liked much: Diablo 1 and Sacred 1. Borderlands is fun too, but after I finish it I doubt I'll want to play it again any time soon (fortunately, I'm just borrowing it).
I thought about just buying it anyway, but then I thought about Fate and changed my mind. I guess I'll wait until the general-release demo comes out.

Mentalepsy: ** Snip **

To be honest, if you didn't like Fate, I really doubt you'll like this. From the very little I played of D1 (years ago when first released and only on a friend's PC), I don't recall it being that similar to Torchlight; but this certainly *is* an almost carbon copy of the Fate games with only a few minor differences.

Not sure if this fits what you are after, but I have found this to be a rather fun game. Eschalon Book I. Here is the Demo link
I'm really enjoying this game but there is one large drawback for me, I can't spend much time playing at once often just 15/30 mins and it takes so long to load. It may be beacuse my machine is getting old but each level takes an age and it really putting me off loading it up. Been playing a bit of Titan Quest instead recently as that loads a hell of a lot faster :(

Well, it is randomly generating dungeons or whatever.

Yeah, I know but that doesn't explain why it takes so long to start or even go back to town. Oh well if that's the only bad point I can find it must be a pretty good game :)

Diablo 1 (1996) also had randomly generated dungeons and load times weren't as bad as in Torchlight. Amazing game nonetheless.
