tinyE: Well my new insurance won't cover the bridge until Jan 1st 2016, so I've got a whole year of looking like this.

Dalswyn: You mean it will cover it, but will let a year pass?
It was good advice! sheesh, a peep can't say anything these days without getting "creepy" responses :-(
Remove your tooth with a pair of pliers. Scrape off the part that looks like it's infected or diseased. Then hammer it back into your jaw.

Ghostbreed: I have toothache, and it sucks. Major time. I think I might have at least one cavity.
Strange thing is, I can chew my food just fine without any pain. I can brush my teeth without any pain.
The pain just comes without warning and stay around for a while, with its icing precense. Then it's gone.

Is that a sign of cavity?

Check for heat and cold sensitivity, as pain caused by a cavity or a cracked tooth should also result in significant temperature sensitivity. If there isn't temperature sensitivity then it's probably not a cavity or a crack you're dealing with.

Something that can cause tooth pain is if the gums and nerves around the teeth become inflamed due to some kind of trauma. This can include things like biting down too hard on something hard, or habitually grinding your teeth (I've had some toothaches in the past that were due to clenching my teeth while I slept whenever I was stressed). Something that can help with this (if this is the cause) is getting some desensitizing toothpaste and rubbing it into your gums around the sensitive teeth a couple times a day (this will help any inflammation go down quicker). If the pain still persists after a week or two of doing this then it's usually time to have the dentist take a look.

Also do a visual inspection to see if you can spot any dark spots or other indications that the tooth may have a cavity or otherwise be compromised.
What happens with me sometimes, i wake up early morning still dark with a big tooth ache.

I know from experience that it will be a bit of food that got in between my teeth somehow and went down deep. It does take some time before developing an infection.

I seem to be lucky somehow, because once the infection starts, it seems to come out very easily with gentle gum massage. Bit of heavy brushing and mouthwash and all is good.

Also i use an anti bacterial toothpaste.
Having dentist fear and poor dental hygiene me and toothache are old friends. I have never experienced the kind you describe though.

My visit to the dentist have tended to be of the emergency kind, and my X-Rays were similar to skulls I've seen in documentaries where the archeologist say the person died of toxic shock from an infected abscess. It's a wonder I'm still alive.
Question?

Is there anything else in nature that is more of a fxxxup invention than teeth?

I have seen documentaries with an old lion or tiger in the wild having a slow and agonizing death because of stupid teeth, and that is just what we see in a show, imagine the carnage from teeth in nature on a global scale, throughout history, humans and animals alike?
You definitely want a dentist at this point.

btw Clove oil can help with the immediate pain of toothaches. Oil pulling can help with sneaky infections and gingivitis, but it isn't a sole cure (you should still brush/floss) and it takes time to work.
Was at the dentist today. it was nothing. X-ray showed absolutely nothing. Weird.
I tend to brush my teeth with mouthwash and it helps keep pain from my teeth...

Oddly sometimes chewy candy or jerky makes my teeth really sting... Changes what i eat quite often...
Did they do a bite check? This is to look for top and bottom teeth sort of getting in the way of each other and thus causing more pressure on a particular pair of teeth, which can lead to pain. Pretty basic stuff so I will guess suspect the dentist did this - takes hardly any time at all.
Put whiskey in your mouth and hold it over the sore tooth, it will ease the pain somewhat. It's OK to swallow the whiskey before or afterwards, that's completely optional :)
